Anyone own a 1990 Nissan Terrano RM3 out there? I would like to find out some details on peoples experiences with high mileage models.

And in fact i have just found out that a small hole under the back seat will result in you being required to replace the entire floor pan. Watch out for that one!

^Couldn't you just patch it?

Yeah unfortunately living here in NZ, regulations for structural rust are hardcore. And in this case where it is part of a 2 skin section next to a seatbelt point, it cant be welded to satisfactory strength. At least thats what the government says. trousersalive
Actually just discovered that there is a legal solution here which involves repairing the rust and installing a seatbelt load bar. Still runs at about $600 but better than $3000. The whole replace the entire floor pan thing was ridiculous. ocalhoun
If it were mine, I would just get a nice heavy metal plate, and bolt it on securely, then bolt the seat belt to that...
Failing that, I would try to sell it internationally, to a country that does not have such requirements on vehicles. (I don't know about the rest of the world, or even the rest of the country, but in Florida, I have a 10 year old, and perfectly legal, truck that has never had any inspections of any kind, emissions or safety.) I have seen all kinds of weird repairs done to cars to get them to pass a WOF. Im not proud of it, but I once repaired a hole in the muffler of my bosses bedford CF2 by putting packaging tape over it then spraypainting it silver. Of course later I went and bought a proper exhaust bandage for it, I just havnt gotten round to putting it on yet.
Best bet is to go find one at your local wreckers, cut out the section of floor you need then butt-weld it in place. Failing that, take it to a local garage that will pass it without looking too close. I know a local place that once gave a car a warrant that had no brakes ocalhoun
^"Accidentally" leaving a large bill next to the hole, or giving a very generous 'tip' might help with that...
