I wanted to start a thread and see if maybe everyone could contribute some links to media concerning upcoming/future technology. I'm always catching these awesome pictures of vidz of some of the new stuff that is currently being researched and I'm always amazed but never have anywhere to post, so here's my contribution.

And here is a link to a site which I am currently working on. It is not yet ready for public release and so you should not rely on the site being up. The site is Science File, which is the new proposed site for the existing Science Forums. One of then new site's major aims is to be the place on the web for this sort of thing (science news and updates), when it is completed.
This particular link is to the RSS/NewsFeeds section of the site and contains links and articles to many subject specific feeds throughout the internet, organised and arranged in subject/field/discipline to make navigation easier. Not all the feeds are currently entered but new ones should appear on a regular basis.

Finally here is a link to the database archive on the same Science File site. This contains archive copies of a list of links prepared by the Webmaster at the current Science Forums. Again the entries are organised by the same categories/disciplines as the feeds and are, therefore, fairly easy to navigate.

I wish I could be a kid again and have some crazy toys like this! How much fun would this be, haha.

RFIDs
This is exactly what's going to happen in the future, we're all going to be tagged and have digital bank accounts linked to our RFID, and we'll end up having to swipe our arm or something to get into our workstations. Haha, jesus it's like 1983.

Multi Touch Screen
This is by far one of my favorites of some of the new tech out there, this is seriously going to revamp people play videogames and how our generals conduct wars.

WOW...have to see it to believe it.

this is off the charts...I can't imagine having little squares that I pick up and move around that are little screens displaying all types of info....we are going to be living in such a crazy time.

this is another link to that crazy glass square monitor thing.

Turning Water into Hydrogen Welder...wow
This is so cool. Def have to see it to believe. The hydrogen keeps the metal around it cool while burning holes in anything in less time and at hotter temps.

Some crazy instruments being demoed. But I think that this wouldn't work out so swell for professional musicians. I just don't see how it takes that much skill to play anything, it seems that the notes are already programmed in and the machine just senses your cues from putting your hand in certain areas and tells the comp to play whatever notes are stored in there. Basically I just think that actually hitting the notes on keyboard or frets or whatever and making all those sounds physically will always more respectable, though the technology is def very cool.
Dude...digital walls.....sweeeeeeet. Bringing watching a porn to a whole new level huh?

IF this is real...that would obviously be very cool. As long as they're charging reasonable prices for it.
Multi Screen Single Monitor

OHH YEA. Having basically a cube of screens all on one screen...now that is def wicked.
hahaha, the guy yells F$CK after he knocks something over halfway thru.
OLED Displays, def the nextgen in monitor technology...if they can figure out how to make it last longer.

Helio Display - Floating image monitor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zRmffRIifE&mode=related&search=
Nuff said..once it's affordable, its definitely going to hit the market in ways we couldn't think of...entertainment event production for sure. There will def be some crazy Tool show with all sorts of floating craziness...I mean think of it...props that take up no physical space!
Animation Engine

Def the next generation in game and video realism.
Something that I've been reading about in Popular Science that looks like it will be very cool is a flexible screen that can be rolled up like paper and put in your pocket. Imagine never having to go out in the morning to pick up a morning paper, but instead you just unroll your cyberpaper, download the news via wi-fi, and sit out on the porch with your morning cup of coffee and the news you want to read - without having to lug out a laptop, or squint your eyes to read a tiny blackberry screen.
Bye-bye tree-killing paper, hello infineitely re-useable cyberpaper.
Now that is what I'm talking about! I think it'd be pretty sweet to be reading a modern newspaper and see videoclips along with the text. It'd certainly make reading the news more enjoyable to people who don't usually read the news.
Hmm...possibly...I am not yet convinced.
Consider...do you prefer to read information on a computer screen or on paper? Personally I use 2 monitors (I do a lot of music processing and 2 monitors are almost essential for the software I use). Both are large 21 inch monitors with good display characteristics. I still, however, much prefer paper if I have to read a large amount of information. The new screens will not, themselves, change this.
Let's face it; industrialized civilization is undermining its support base and setting itself up for collapse. What we think of as "normal" isn't going to be around for much longer. The technology of the future is going to look an awful lot like the technology of the past:

Technology can help with every problem we have, but it also creates problems in the meantime, but that is what everything we do is all about, problem solving. Just wanted to point out that all this cool stuff listed here can eventually cause some type of issue, usually something unseen.

Hi cornga56,
I totally agree with your point! We tend to forget that almost all the problems we face nowadays stem from "fixes" to real or perceived problems of the not-so-distant-past. Our culture teaches us the value of "progress" and technology as a solution to all our ills, but it doesn't tech us about the potential pitfalls or our true history. And (at least in America) our culture doesn't teach us the critical thinking skills required to see past the hype and really evaluate new technologies for not just the obvious potential benefits but for the potential problems as well.
And of course our culture has a huge blindspot when it comes to evaluating whether all our technological progress of the last 10,000 years, starting with agriculture, has actually left us better off than paleolithic hunter-gatherers...I didn't discover until the last few years that pre-historic people lived better and easier lives on just about every criteria you can evaluate than we did!

New aerotechnology, incredible thrust vectors and amazing feats of aero-manipulation. Haha, I could only imagine what it'd be like in the cockpit.

Vehicle with no batteries or gas! Seriously though, why do we let the oil companies direct progress in the automotive field? I mean it just doesn't make sense, if people weren't so apathetic and obsessed with big vehicles that use up way too much fuel, we would see huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge changes in the environment and in our economies.

Light emitting textiles!! I can only imagine what clothes might be like in the future......hey at least you couldn't miss someone walking on the side of the road! And hey people could even turn on their hazard signals on their jacket if they have car trouble! Haha.

Useless technology in my opinion, but hey, not all of it can be life-changing and innovative!

This is def very cool. This is a hadron accelerator? I believe that is what it's called. Forgive me if I'm wrong on that. Bottom line it's basically a 17mile wide particle accelerator that borders France and 2 other countries, and is apparently going to change the way we look at particles. I feel though that they're going to start it up for the first time, and they're going to like tear a hole in some dimensional fabric and release insane creatures or something highly destructive like in Half Life or something. Hahaha.
I really wish people would be more interested in posting on this topic, I hate how I'm the only person ever adding stuff to this. Haha, so lonely in this topic. So anyone reading this go take a look on youtube find some cool stuff to post on here, I'd love to see what people are finding out.
Anyone hear about this new type of battery that's basically like a piece of paper?? I haven't seen anything online yet, but then again I haven't checked. I'm just wondering if maybe someone read aboiut this somewhere and could explain a little bit about it.
