My video production company website

Alaskacameradude
Hi! Well, I'm not really a filmmaker (although I do have Magic Bullet for creating the 'film look')....I'm a video producer. I just don't have the money to shoot film, and I have to do projects that may not be as fun as making your own films,....instead I have to do projects that will actually PAY something. In the process of promoting my business, I have just revamped my new website. It's not much as I'm not really much of a web designer, but I do have a few video demos up that people can watch. The website address is:
www.gforcevideo.com

Feel free to take a look at it. Check out my demos and give me ay feedback you have! Thanks for taking the time to let me know what you think!

Hi Alaska!

Jus had a look! I am gonna be blunt and honest and straight to the point.

I find it a little troubling to be honest. I know your work and skill and the site jus doesnt seem to mirror the level of prefessionalisim you have to your work.

It has an amature feel to it that does you no justice. It's hard to put a finger on exactly but as a fellow video professional I look at it and dont feel inspired. Basically if i were a random person lookinf for a producer and this site came up, i'd prolly skip it. I know not everyone is as harsh as that but one must consider everyone.

Again sorry for being so harsh but i'd hate to see you loose out on work because of the site letting you down.

Have you done this yourself or had someone else do it for you?

If you want some pointers fire me a message.

get rid of the intro page. other then that it's nice.
Jaan
Setup the domain so it doesn't redirect to your frih subdomain, but instead your main page, you don't need the intro.
Alaskacameradude
Ok, thanks for the honest opinions. That's why I was asking.
I guess I will have to try to come up with something else, I'm really not much of a web designer. But I'll see what I can do. Once I get up the new site I'll try and post again here.

The reason I have a redirect is that I have so many clients that had my old web domain name that I didn't want to change it on them. but my old website server wouldn't recognize PHP and some other stuff I wanted to do. But I understand why you say that, again I'll have to try to figure something out.

On another note, if you forget the whole website design thing, what about my video demos? Anyone have any comments or criticisms on those?

Just remove the "enter the site" thing you have a nice website...

Yes, the redirecting web page is not professionally done, it will be better if you simply put a basic HTML web page with a URL link to your frih web site.

I have problem with broken links on a number of the images, not sure if you are updating your web pages.

Will try a revisit to see if those links are re-established.

Good strong background color (creates sense of mystery), nice picture of owner at work in a table.

That's all I have observed.
Alaskacameradude
Sorry, I was at work redesigning the site. That's why there were broken links and all kinds of strange stuff. I have finished for now....although depending on comments I may redesign a bit more later. Take a look again as everything should work now. Thanks!
The address is still:
www.gforcevideo.com
(I just put an invisible redirect that most clients won't notice I hope)
Tom7
does your domain company offer cloaking of the address, because, it gets redirected and shows gforcevideo.frih.net or whatever instead of gforvevideo.com, which is more professional, and u have the domain, so you may aswell use it to the best potential.

WOW - Dude - That's a massive improovment. It looks soooomuch better!!

I liked the recent version.

I just don't think the logo is good (it looks amateur), as it is rendered (it looks was stretched).
First of all, I suggest you to resize and make the logo have 25% its actual size.
Then I would go after a new logo.

Hope the tip help you.
Good luck! Great works you have on your portfolio!
Alaskacameradude
Good tips one and all, thanks a bunch!

I will continue to work on redesigning my website until I am totally satisfied. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I have a bunch of paying clients clamouring for my time, so it will probably take a while until I can put a little time into my website again. I will do it though, as I again picked up a few ideas from everyone's comments....I do feel I could make it look a bit better.

the problem is the banner at the top, the color scheme is great, but the banner is too complicated and is not honestly very attractive to look at. the soft edges are also blocky b/c your banner is bigger than it is displayed on a normal sized monitor, which causes the edges to get blocky, re export the banner out of photoshop at a smaller size so that it doesnt get resized, and use it at full resolution.

get rid of the white donut on the right side, and decrease the distance of the drop shadow, and make it more spread out and increase the feathering, so the effect is not overdone.

also, change the red text and the teal background to diff colors, they dont go well with the blue swoosh. pick two colors taht contrast, using a color circle, for ex, blue and orange contrast, red and green, and yellow and purple.......maybe add a out glow to the teal plate and the blue swoosh as well, a blue glow might look cool Wink

I like the look, I viewed some of your demos they are some really nice works. Especially the work you did with the wedding demo....Good job Wink

Hey i think your site is looking pretty good its simple and easy to navigate, those video demos on your site where really slow at downloading when i preiviewd them though.
Alaskacameradude
Wow, Thanks a bunch for all the tips!! I am going to redo it again once I have a bit of spare time. I think using some of the tips I got on here, I will be able to make it look quite a bit better. Of course, right now I am pretty busy.......and the paying customers are the ones I have to keep happy first! Smile

What program or programs are you using for your editing?
sabe
I don't know where to ask this question. It is sooooo... low tech. I have a video player that connects to an RCA cable that I have to boost the signal. I don't know how to boost a video signal if it uses an RCA jack. I would rather not have to get svideo switcher, cables & boost.

I use Final Cut Pro. I have a ton of third party plug ins though, and I also have After Effects, I am not real good with After Effects, but I have a couple tricks I know with it that help add some a little something extra to my videos. If you have any specific questions on how I did anything, just ask and I'll do my best to explain.
