Paris Hilton begins jail term

US socialite Paris Hilton has begun serving her Los Angeles jail sentence for violating probation, her lawyer says.

Richard A Hutton said the 26-year-old socialite turned herself in to authorities at a Los Angeles County Jail in the suburb of Lynwood.

Earlier in the evening, Hilton attended the MTV Movie Awards near Hollywood, where she was the butt of comedians' jokes.

In Mr Hutton's statement, Hilton was quoted as saying: "Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."

“I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realise I made some mistakes,” Hilton said.

“This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support."

Hilton was due to turn herself in by tomorrow to start serving her term, which already has been cut from 45 days to 23 days under state sentencing guidelines.

I can't wait to see the footage of her in her orange overalls! Laughing

I really can't see the big deal about that. She's done something wrong but it seems the other way round. Why can't everyone especially the media just ignore her and maybe we could see less of that extra lame face belonging to Paris Hilton. Rolling Eyes

Agreed. Everyone is over her now... she was once popular... but she is now just trashy. Kind of like Brittany Speers. But once way of looking at it is that it is a warning to the other celebrities out there who might do something stupid like this.

Whatever....

Why this fuss????

What news value does this have??????
roboguyspacedude
Finally she gets jailed. Celebrities need to be jailed more often, they cause way to much havoc in the country. This just shows the others that they can't get away from the law Evil or Very Mad

I think that Paris should be placed with the rest of the inmates none of this special treatment. I also agree that she deserves what she gets and that the media should try to ignore her and then maybe she would tone down.
She is a role model to so many young girls and I feel that her actions should be punished just like anybody else.
bigdan
Apparently a shot of her in her prison uniform is worth half a mil, and she wants to do a prison diary and an interview as soon as she gets out.

I hope she doesn't make a cent from this, and that any money made goes to anti-drink driving campaigns to prevent others from following her lead.

And 3 days after she goes in, she gets out. Now she only has 40 day in house sentence.

She got out easy.

Don't get all excited! Because in a surprise move (not for me though) Paris Hilton is released after only 3 days in jail!!!

Apparently she has some medical condition! Shocked I thought her problem was being a filthy rich spoiled heiress and not knowing what to do with her life! Very Happy

Yeah... her medical condition is being rich and famous.

Apparently if all you want to do to get out of being in jail into house arrest is be worth quite a lot of money and be sad.

Way to work judicial system. Or prison system...

I thought that it was only in my funny country that the more privileged do less time than the less privileged, but no, she was just convicted to walk with that ankle monitor. And I saw her cell. I'd say it's almost as comfortable as my bedroom.
bigdan
What the hell? She should be put back in ASAP. No one is above the law.

The US prison system isn't built for beautiful young rich famous girls, it's built to handle our addicted and mentally ill.

Anyway, isn't this fascination odd? People want to be close to Paris, they spend money to see picture and read stories, and watch commercials between her stupid TV shows. Yet everyone seems to hate her.

I wonder how it is to be a person so possessed by her society. I would drink heavy too. I hate being recognized the few time it happens. If everyone recognized me I would be even more of a recluse.
Da Rossa
And I don't think she is very happy either.
TurkishGamer
I saw the picture of her in the car crying. I think this prison term might actually change her.
horseatingweeds
Are you kidding Turkish, girls like her can cry on demand like you and I can burp. I'd probably cry too if I thought I got out of jail and didn't...
Mannix
She isn't getting out of this one, as it should be. I hope she serves her full sentence like any normal person who drove drunk would and she learns her lesson. One night in a drunk tank was enough for me to learn my lesson(public intoxication, not DUI).
Insanity
And this is classified as world news, why...?

I feel for her getting the jail term, but she's human after all, so going to jail is one thing she's got to face up to.
Let's be realistic,if i did it, then i'll go to jail and to one will make a big deal about it.
Going to jail is going to bring her down both physically, emotionally and all.
She did the crime so she definately has to do the time
Tim Graham
Honestly, who really cares? It makes great gossip fodder but it's hardly impacting on anyone's life but her own - there are much bigger and more important issues to deal with.

After seeing The Simple Life I can't help but think it's been coming for a long, long time.
missdixy
You know, she is actually serving a longer sentence at the actual jail than most people who commit the same crime there.

Quote:
It turns out in the L.A. County jail system these days, non-violent offenders serve only about 10% of their sentences because of over-crowding. Lots of people convicted of crimes like Hilton's, driving without a license, serve all their time from home to leave room for the murderers and rapists. If anything, Hilton has probably served more time than she would have if she were a nobody. And Sheriff Baca's end run around the prosecutor's office, while egregious for his failure to provide the proper documentation for Hilton's release, probably would have gone unnoticed if there hadn't been a herd of paparazzi chronicling every congratulatory fruit basket delivered to Hilton's home during her fleeting hours of freedom.

It would send a really bad message to society if she got out and wasn't put back in. Everything is equal.

(Actually, after doing some thinking I think everyone is equal except Paris Hilton. She's much lamer and worse)
Lord Klorel
Celebrity or not, when you make violations against some laws and you must go to jail, then so be it.
Even a work sentence is not enough like "naomi cambell" feel the pain in prison is my motto.

No excuse, when i geard that paris hilton would have permission to do here time out with electonic security at here house, i getted mad.

But finally she get what she disserves.
gh0stface
Apparently even when in jail, she's still get preferential treatment.
Quote:
Hilton was sent to a medical ward, where sheriff's officials said it costs $1,109.78 a day to house a female inmate compared with $99.64 a day in the general population.

I hope the judge adds even more days on to her sentence just because of that. Although I guess by spending that much money, it may help the cost of care for inmates... naw.
Tim Graham
It's become an absolute circus - who really cares about her anyway? Commit the crime, do the time..it's pretty simple.
Ennex
I've got no sympathy for her, she's getting what she deserves, she shouldn't get special treatment just because she's got a rich family and has had a few porn videos.

She's broken the laws without too much consequence and now she's done something serious, she's finally being put behind bars.

And all that mental stability crap, is just because she's had everything her way her whole life and just when she has to do something like us "simple folk" in middle class civilization and pay the price...she's getting what she deserves.

Yep No special treatment for celebs ,
if they are punished like everyone maybe they will stop all there pathetic attention seaking antics !!!!!!!!

At the end of the day, she is famous for being the heir to a hotel chain, and for releasing a couple of pornographic videos on the internet. In my honest opinion, she's not even that attractive, and certainly not very intelligent. I have no sympathy for her, and think that the media attention given to her is exaggerated.
diggitydawg
This whole thing personally makes me sick. Whether anyone really likes it or not, ignorant young woman like this are becoming role models for young teenagers everywhere. And it sets a horrible example for any young person who happens to be that well off, seeing others receive so much attention because of negative and/or inappropriate behaviour. I certainly do not find it interesting or really that amusing to see all of these things being featured on the news and on the internet.

Maybe people will realize how wrong it is to be focusing on this sort of thing when one of these attractive young celebrities turns up dead after drunk driving or a drug overdose. And money certainly isn't going to help them with that.. Careless habits and having this much money can only lead to bad things anyway. I am disgusted by the fact that use of drugs like cocaine and LSD is so known about but it go's unpunished 70% of the time, even with celebrities like "Paris Hilton" - who has done pretty much nothing. Paris has already received entirely too much for her crime and it's absolutely ridiculous that people continue to be amused by this.

I know poor people who have more value than her.
