my Internet explorer suddenly requires www.
I tink IE 7 is made to be liddat. I juz realised about this, coz i'm used to type www when i use IE.

anyways, reset ur system til like last week or something, and see if it solves.. dunno what it's like with IE7 tho.. don't use it.. brr.. gives me chills..

I haven't met this problem, but I think you can rectify you IE by some software.
Try Firefox, see if that works for you.
This is more than just open-source advocacy; I suggest this because that will allow you to see whether the problem is the browser or something lower-down the stack (DNS for example).

I suggest both using Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/ and OpenDNS (http://opendns.com/.
Firefox is because, well, I am one of those people who just seem to like it better than IE.
OpenDNS because it will take care of issues you may have with www. prefixes in your addresses.
The website explains everything.

Can you post examples of the sites that you are trying to access? I use IE7 all the time and nothing in IE7 requires the use of the www. prefix unless that is the only way that it is listed within DNS.
My question posed to you cc1903 is what changed on your system between the time it changed and the time you noticed it not working?
Have you scanned your system for any kind of malware? Malicious software can very easily cause problems similar to what you are reporting.
Please post back any information that you have regarding scans and results

is there any downside of OpenDNS? how good is it?

There aren't any drawbacks I've encountered using OpenDNS. The anti phishing and auto correcting measures are very slick, highly useful, and functional. It's not difficult to set up as you can do it on your router (if it's supported) or on your computer. In my experience, it cuts down on Internet lag time which can be a lifesaver if you're on a high latency connection.
It does song like a DNS problem to me, although you may want to try opening up command prompt (go to run and then type cmd and push enter) and try typing in "ping google.com" (without the quotes) to see if it's not something in Internet Explorer itself. I hate IE as much as the next guy, but if you don't want to switch browsers for whatever reason, I would recommend trying OpenDNS first.
Good luck.
