I purchases a Hewlett Packard Pavillion DV9000T Notebook computer in February. It came with a DVD+RW DL Lightscribe CD/DVD drive. I did not order a remote control. However, there is a very basic remote control that comes as part of the system. I had been using this to play DVDs but the battery ran out in about 6-8 weeks. I am attempting to determine if this is normal for these types of remotes or did the remote come with a half charged battery to start with? Although I was able to pick up two replacement batteries for five bucks and change, I don't think I want to be buying batteries every few months if this is the regular rate of use.

Not sure. Either way, it sounds like you are stuck with it. It's not like you can just take it back...
Demo batteries are commonly very low quality batteries, and who knows how long they were sitting in a warehouse. Most remotes use very very little current from the batteries.
