Could I have a virus?

My computer is acting a bit lately. Especially in forums. When I post a reply to the forums, I am unable to use the apostrophe key and several others. If I try to use it, it activates a different function on my computer. The apostrophe key (') activates the search function within Firefox. If I shut down all windows and reload Firefox, the apostrophe key ' works again for a while.
Not a big problem, but what would be causing this? I'm getting sick of typing in Im instead of I'm or cant for can't. We need an apostrophe emoticon here on this forum. Exclamation :':

edit: I have run antivirus software already without finding anything. What's the best AV spyware software that you would recommend I run aside from AVG, Spybot and adaware.

That's unlikely to be a virus if that is the only symptom. It's more likely to be a problem with Firefox - perhaps a problem with extensions or a damaged installation. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox - if that doesn't work, try creating a new profile.

Thanks Animal! Uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it again and problem solved. I've been using Firefox for a long time now and this is the first time that I've ever had a problem with it. Not sure what happened with it, but glad that it was a simple fix.

sorry guys, i came a bit late.

that could also happen with other applications or even Windows itself. One of the possible cause is an untimely shutting down of your PC, an erratic electricity or resetting of your system, thus an abnormal closing of Windows.

Because of this, files get corrupted, damaged or whatever.

If let's say, the problem persisted even after you re-installed Firefox, then most possibly you have an illegal intruder in your PC - a virus. And there is no perfect anti-virus software can detect a newly created signature. Before it is known, damage has been done.

Okay then, at least a bit of something I have thrown in for an idea. Good luck and happy surfing. Smile
