Third-Person-Shooter?

Sparda
Hi. I was playing this First-Person-Shooter with my cusion and he all of a sudden says: "This would be better in third-person." So, I was wondering if there are actual third-person-shooters. I only heard of FPS. If there are any third-persons, what are they? Thank you.

Resident Evil 4 is a third person shooter. I think the others are as well. The GTA games could also be considered third person shooters.

In Jedi Knight2: Jedi Outcast (or what's it's name) you toggle between first and third person. (first person = easier, third person = funnier)

Well, since all shooters are made for shooting, the shooting is the main quest, and it's easiest to aim and shoot in First Person, all actual shooters I know are FPS. Though, in games where shooting just is a smaller part of the game, like in many adventure games, Resident Evil, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, you name it, Third Person fits better for the rest and then it's not as important to make the shooting realistic.

Armed Assault has a 3rd person option too.

I agree with this...In games where not all objectives are obtained by shooting (I.E. pretty much all sandbox games) third-person fits much better, that way you can see your character's entire body and how they interact with their environment.

Gears of War is primarily third-person, which is the best way to do a shooter on a console (past first person shooters on consoles have been miserable failures--Halo, Halo 2 etc). But Gears is still pretty average.

Other third person shooters that come to mind are Max Payne, GTA3, and to top the list, The Specialists. MGS is third person, but isn't really a shooter--aside from boss fights you can beat most MGSes with little to no shooting :p

GunZ: the Dual is an third person shooter. The game itself is pretty fun and can be played on slower connections. Playing GunZ is free but it is an 140 something MB download and there are optional "Prems" Or premium items that can be bought with real money that are better then normal items that can be purchased with "Bounty" you get from completing quests or killing people in deathmatch games.

Heres a link to the site.

I find the first person mode harder in JKII, I always played it in third person mode. (You see more of what's happening etc.), and I really can't immagine using the light-sabre in first person mode. But yep, this is kindof that sort of game. I myself don't know of any other third person shooters (well there's also the other JK gamne: JK1 and JK3, JK1 is a bit old, but still fun, JK3 I haven't ever played yet though.

But it's a MMOG so it doesn't count Razz

How can you say the Halo games were a failure? Shocked
I thought those were like the best game for XBOX (though I haven't played them myself)

Maybe so, but that doesn't make them any good :*(

Thanks for the information regarding third-person-shooters. I now understand exactly what one is. Thanks for the link also.

I think Max Payne 1 and 2 are third person shooters.

Some times it really feels good to see your player while you shoot at enemies.

James Bond: Everything or Nothing is a GREAT 3rd person shooter. In fact, it's quite possibly my favorite 3rd person shooter. The gameplay was great, the controls were intuitive and effective, and the stealth levels were awesome.

Other 3rd person shooters (I think) are the splinter cell games (at least the first one was...if I remember correctly.)

I know there are more, but I can't think of any of them right now...though I will say that often times I prefer a 3rd person shooter to a 1st person shooter. When done properly, you get a more cinematic feel to the game, as well as more options for realistic duck and cover strategies (which are crucial to almost all realistic shoot outs.)

When in 1st person, it's incredibly hard for a game to realistically mimic a "back to the wall, shooting around a corner" scenario. Yet in real life, this is a very common situation in a shoot out. Another one is a "ducked behind an object, popping up and shooting" scenario. This scenario can more easily be done in first person than the around a corner scenario...but it still doesn't really feel right.

A 3rd person shooter that is properly done (like the bond game I mentioned) does a great job realistically mimicking both scenarios, and thus adds to the realism and strategy of the game. There's nothing like having your back to a wall and popping out and picking off enemies around a corner.

Just my opinions...anyone who's interested in trying a 3rd person shooter, rent James Bond: Everything or Nothing and try it out! It's not for everyone...some die hard FPS fans might not like it...but you can't please everyone!

There are a lot of Third Person Shooter. As far as i know Max Payne 1 & 2 is TPS. Enter The Matrix, Total Overdose, GTA(maybe it is not a shooter but there is Third Person view). I don't remember more games, but I'm sure there is a lot Smile

Third person shooters are much better, in my opinion.
