I prefer Australian and american cars, and absolutely hate jap cars - mostly because 95% of cars you see on the roads here are used japanese imports. They bring them over here by the boat-load.

I used to like American cars and Japanese cars pretty much equally, but I've been liking American cars (and American car companies) less and less lately.

German and Italian Engineering all the way. Lamborghini started out as a tractor company and look where they are now. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. Yeah, they may be expensive, but they are the most consistent supercars in the world. Granted the US is working on catching up with the new Corvette, and the attempt with the Ford GT, and Mustang GT500, and there's a couple others. Now for Luxurious vehicles, BMW and Mercedes. I personally would go for a mix of luxury and speed and go with the BMW M6 Very Happy . Just my 2 cents

I like American cars. It just seems to me that Japanese cars all look pretty much alike. Accords, Camrys, Maximas, they really just don't stand out to me. I was into early 90s compacts for awhile, I was really into the Honda CRX, but right now I'm really favoring American stuff.

I perfer American cars, since it is cheaper in some ways since I have a limited budget LOL

That's it really. It depends on what you're interested in.

Since I'm interested in off-roading and using the car instead of hard work, I go for American trucks. (Jeep and Chevrolet; Ford has been going downhill lately)
Example of why I like my jeep better than small Japanese cars: I can use it to demolish a fence by pulling the posts out of the ground, rather than digging them up.
For work like that you need a big engine and low range 4x4, and the most reliable vehicles that have those things are American.

French cars, mostly Citroen's. Why? Because of stylish design, innovations, unique character. Citroens are like no other cars. They'r chasing the epoque. Especially with Hydractive suspension Smile

Guys, read this: http://www.citroen.mb.ca/Documents/Car/1.html

"'The Citroën's wonderful hydro-pneumatic trickery makes the Audi and BMW seem positively primitive'" from above

Sorry Jackill, but there are a few other manufacturers that use "hydractive" suspension, they just don't call it that. Jeep calls 'em Active Sway Bars, which is really what they are, sway bars that become stiffer when necessary (going through a tight corner) and more soft when not necessary, making the ride more comfortable yet at the same time keeping it sporty.

I prefer German cars, although I drive a Japanese car (Toyota MR2). BMW, Benz, Audi, VW, German engineering is far more sophisticated and developed than any other.

No, active sway bar is only sway bar... Mercedes, Audi has only pneumatic shock absorbers. Only Citroen is making nowdays full hydro-suspension. I have Xantia with Hydroactive2, so I know what I'm sying. Cit rules Smile

Ofc, no offence Smile

I don't know about nowadays, but Chrysler (I think) used to use such things. I have a relative who got rich by making a way to correct a design flaw in that system.

I'll quote directly from Wiki:

Quote:
"Hydropneumatic is a type of automotive suspension system invented by Citroën and fitted to Citroën cars, as well as being adapted by other car manufacturers, notably Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot. It was also used on Berliet trucks. Similar systems are also used on some military vehicles.

The purpose of this system is to provide a soft, comfortable, yet well-controlled ride quality."

Personally, I would go with american cars for street racing and drifting (although I do not condone street racing, it is stupid and illegal). Typically for drifting you want RWD and lots of power. This Is pretty much the domain of american cars. You can get RWD jap cars with plenty of power but not only are they expensive but most of them have a particularly narrow torque range and suffer from turbo lag. Higher displacement N/A or supercharged engines (something commonly found in high performance american cars) normally have a very wide torque range and no lag at all - this is obviously what you want for a "sport" like drifting where maximum power and the ability to control it precisely are more important.

While the system has inherent advantages over steel springs, generally recognized in the auto industry, it also has an element of complexity, so automakers like Mercedes-Benz, British Leyland (Hydrolastic, Hydragas), and Lincoln have sought to create simpler variants.

I mean that onlyCitroen makes real hydro suspension Smile I have Xantia, so I know when I mean comfortable suspension. Also I read test, which compared Citroen C6, Merc S-classe, Audi A8, and Lexus [StrangeNumbesISorSth]. Merc and Audi had optional pneumo/hydo susp, but noone's was comparable to comfort and stability grant by C6 Hydroactive suspension. Vive La France Smile

K, well I'm not for either side of this argument, but using a wiki is not always trustworthy as it is just written by users, what you need to do is professional research and not just use a wikipedia. Maybe do some research in the patent offices, if it's really that big of a deal for you guys to argue over such a trivial fact. I'm not trying to incite anger among anyone, but this really wasn't the topic of discussion.

Back on topic. I know I've already given my opinion for types of vehicles that I enjoy, but as ocalhoun stated, it really does depend on what you're interested in. I'm more for comfort, style, and performance, which you get from German & Italian auto makers. However I have seen more BMWs drifting better than Japanese cars drifting, but that also depends soley on the driver. Any good driver can make any car perform.

I like German cars. Smooth rides and luxury beat anywhere else in the world. Runner up would have to be Korean cars. Reliable, fairly luxurious, cheap, and efficient. A businessman's dream.
