Home Server Status Indicator

Ok, I have a home game server and it has a static IP address.

I would like to construct an indicator that will show when the server is online or offline.

Is it possible to check by the IP address?
(without touching the server itself, i mean put the indicator in my FriHost hosting space for example)

I know there is a php code that pings a ip and then puts 1 for accepted and 0 for fail but i can not find it atm, will edit back if i find it.

Errr.... can't you just have an image that's hosted on your home server that appears on your website that will (obviously) only display if your server's running?

I want it to be remote from the server itself.

I used a Socket PHP function to check an IP.
