Detour, a 1945 film noir

I study theatre-film-literature (and English) and have a film course. Last Wednesday we got to watch Detour, a 1945 B-film (noir). I kinda liked it, though I left the course feeling somewhat strange. It has a very claustrophobic atmosphere about it.
Anyone seen it? Any film noir fans?
