I'm looking to buy a laptop for use during my uni course. I'll be buying in the next few weeks, in the UK, and have the following requirements:
Decent processor. I.e. >1.6Ghz, or dual-core nonsense
RAM. Ideally 2048MB, but I can settle for 1024
A graphics card made by ATI or Nvidia.
Will run Ubuntu linux with all functioning peripherals (although they don't need to work out-of-box - I know my way around a compiler)
Light-ish, i.e. not some 4kg monster
15" screen?
Laaaarge HD. Though i suppose that isn't too important because external HDs are cheap enough.
No eBay please. Ideally I'd just like peoples' experiences with this kind of machine, or some guidance to a comprehensive list.
Also no Dell, Sony or IBM unless they're really special. Dell is poor-quality and under-supported, IBM has TCPM and Sony makes the PS3 and hates Lik-Sang.
