Help with importing images from a DV camara recorder to pc!!

I have some problems Importing my footage from my dv camara to my PC. I was trying to import the video by the Firewire cable. But when I try to import the video... theres no image in the pc. I dont know why. Cause the camera its conected and detected by the PC. Maybe im using the wrong program to import the image. But I dont think so.
So if anyone can help me telling me what program shoud I use or what I have to do... I will Apreciated! Thanks!

I have a JVC dv camera... a new computer with firewire...
I dont have I idea of what is the problem...

What software are you using to capture the footage?

Use iMovie on Mac or Windows Movie Maker on Windows.
There's a command for capturing digital video from your camera.

but remember to check all the settings while doing it. windows movie maker has a tendency to to get it all wrong.
