Hey there,

I would say the number one rule is test, test, test at every step. If you just start with Internet Explorer 6 and 7, plus Firefox of course, and keep checking in each browser that your pages look the same!

Sometimes you'll be amazed how the smallest changes affect different browsers in different ways...

A good site to start out with (lots of tips, lots of links to further sites) is www.positioniseverything.net

It's also the first place I check if I can't quite work out what's gone wrong, as they have a section that documents all the different browser bugs.

Hope this helps,

Thanks a lot.

Arent there any specific rules for this ??

Testing again and again is always the best.

Ys he is absolutely right. And also there is not any hard and fast rule of making a site compatible to all the browsers.

I suggest you some more things/
1) Test your site in all famous browsers.

Browsers ranking is

Internet Explorer 6 37.3%
Firefox 32.9%
Internet Explorer 7 19.2%
Internet Explorer 5 1.7%
Safari 1.7%
Opera 1.7%
Mozila 1.3%

(These statistics have been taken in April)

It means you have not to give equal importance to all browsers. Just use top 3 and Opera.

ALso screen resolution also disturbs your site's look. So, also check your website in different resolutions. Here is the list of majourly used.

A sample of users was taken and the following results occured in percentages.

1024x768 54%
Higher 26%
800x600 14%
Unknown 6%
640x480 0%

I think now you have got all the answers of your questions like which browser to use and which screen resolution to use while making sites.

And i also tell you that there is no alternative of checking pages frequantly in browsers.

One more thing that these are not browser problems, these are programming problems. If you ask, i will specify some of problems here.

For the most part, if you're using semantic html with a proper doctype, and using your css properly (learn about the DOM), you won't have many problems with cross-browser incompatabilities.
Of course, as has been suggested by my wise predecessors, test.
If you need pointers on how to start marking up (X)HTML and CSS, I think it's always wise to start at the w3c's tutorial site.

Thanks for the info.
