How to make a symlink

modak
I've set up serendipity to serve as the common blog for my family members. It is currently available at /serendipity under public_html. I want to make a symlink blog from the serendipity directory, so that the blog is available at /blogs. Can anyone tell me how to make this symlink ?

Thanks a lot

What you want is /serendipity/whateverfile to be available at /blogs/whateverfile, right?

If so, you'll want a .htaccess entry. Make a file called .htaccess in /serendipity and write the following line in it:

Alias /blogs /serendipity

This should work. If it doesn't, you may need to use absolute paths. Try the following line instead:

Alias /blogs /home/cpanelusername/public_html/serendipity

Remember to call the file '.htaccess' (make sure the dot is the first character)

Your almost on the right track, but i don't think you can use the 'Alias' command from within a .htaccess file. Use the 'Redirect' command instead heres an example :-

You have a folder on your website:-

http://www.yourdomain.com/folder1/

and you want it to point to :-

http://www.yourdomain.com/myfolder1/myfolder2/

you would create a file named ".htaccess" in your "public_html" folder in the file you would put :-

Redirect /folder1 http://www.yourdomain.com/myfolder1/myfolder2/

hope this helps Smile
