Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere must be stabilized to 445 parts per million by 2015 in order to avoid catastrophic climate changes, according to an IPCC report released Friday. The study notes that the technology to reduce greenhouse gases and generate power via renewable resources is currently possible and affordable.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a summary Friday of its latest report on global warming. The report, gleaned from the help of 2,000 scientists, calls for the world to cut emissions of CO2 and shift energy sources to renewable fuels.
The report also calls for the stabilization of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by 2015 to the level of 445 parts per million, which scientists say will keep global temperatures from rising high enough to cause environmental and economic chaos. In addition, the IPCC has set a goal to reduce emissions between 50 and 85 percent by 2050.

The question is not 'does it need to be done?'.
It's not even 'if it can be done?'.
It's 'will it be done?'.
Believe it or not, there are some very big companies and world leaders who have unbelievable amounts of money invested in oil, AND A LOT OF THEM HOLD VERY HIGH POSITIONS IN THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD eg. George Bush.
DON'T REPLY TO THIS IS YOU HAVEN'T DONE YOU HOMEWORK!
Because George Bush has been on the board of, and also benefited from, may Oil and Defense companies, which both also made a lot of money in Iraq.
A recent report in Canada suggested that it would cost around .12% of our National Interior Product (don't know how you call that in English... and too lazy to check out ) to lower greenhouse gases from a great percentage using only energy efficiency and such affordable measures. I wonder what's still the problem of the leaders not to get things moving. It's becoming an economically good choice anyway, as such investments will create a lots of jobs and have a positive aspect on society.
I just think that if we dont get ourselfs together now.. and in more ways that j ust pollution, we will have big problems in the future. Be it from a series of natural disasters or from something like an asteroid etc.. I think life is partly about concouring the things that present a threat to us, and eventually things will have to change for the better.. or we will alll die.
i do however think that we can take on anything, as long as we have the will and the ability to work together efficiently.
It is not as hard as you think to make buildings and people more efficient, I wrote a paper with respect to Canada achieving its Kyoto accord way back in 2002-03. I got an A on hit. Basically, we just have to be smarter with regards to how we build things, make adjustments to buildings to help reduce loads on furnaces and a/c. Etc. etc.
i really really wish that people would start looking a little further ahead. i am 18 now, so when i will be around 60, people, including me, probably will already have to fight for their lives from starving, floods, storms and so on. global warming really must be treated.
plus! i dont want my children to have to fight for their lives too. i want better world, as most people do. just nobody tries to do something about it.
Climate change has long been more of a political issue than it is a scientific issue. We have all the means to do it, but in order to do it, we have to get the oil companies to agree to it, which equates to possible loss of profits in the future.
This is also analogous to the hunger problem in the world today; we have enough food to feed everyone on the planet, but yet there are millions of people starving everyday. It is ultimately a distribution and political problem.
Global cooling, global warming, climate change, my big ol truck causing global warming on Mars. (Yeah, Mars having same warming effect we're having, that's a lot of Co2 from Earth floating through space, don't you think?)
Lets forget about the debate of whether or not global warming is happening. Unless you want to debate why there are ice packs forming in the souther hemisphere, which begs the question, where’d they come up with the GLOBAL part of global warming.
Anyway, I support global warming, such as it is. I’ll give you a quick run-down of the pros and cons as I see them. (This is not a complete list)
* Pros: More food production.
* Lower heating costs.
* Better standard of living.
* Lower deaths due to freezing.
* Cons: A select group of eco-wackos think:
* The Earth has already reached optimum temperature.
* Humans are to blame.
* All human growth and advancement needs to stop now.
* We need to stop or reverse the naturally-occurring weather cycles of the planet
* The sun has no effect on global temperatures.
* The earth is warming AND cooling due to mankind.
* My Jeep has such bad emissions, it’s screwing up the climate on Mars and melting the polar ice there, too.
Anything that will simultaneously inflate man’s self-importance and expose the hypocrisy of wealthy liberals not only entertains me, but makes popcorn cook on it’s own while I watch.
Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says National Geographic
Well Billy Hill, (or was that Hill Billy I'm not quite sure I remember)
These "eko-wackos" must be crazy because they are alarmed by overpopulation, habitat destruction, and this bizzare, imaginary concept they made up called "Global Warming."
But of course you are right, and not a moron, because you believe some scientist that came up with an arbitrary theory. Oh yeah ironically, you claim that pollution (you know that stuff that causes asthma) is a step towards higher learning. Yep using the same technology over and over again is a sure sign of progress. I'll ignore that though because "The solar irradiance began to drop in the 1990s, and a minimum will be reached by approximately 2040, It will cause a steep cooling of the climate on Earth in 15 to 20 years." Yep, that theory must be right, it was on National Geographic! Who cares about facts? Even though every winter has been systematically getting warmer and warmer doesn't really disprove that theory does it? It was on National Geographic!
Oh yeah! Fellow morons, support your global warming.
See all* the benefits of global warming:
-It is always hotter than 120 degrees outside, so you don't have to pay that high electricity bill for your oven to cook food anymore! *Disclaimer-Food cooking times may be substantially longer than conventional ovens, and the FDA does not recommend eating meats cooked in this fashion.
-Lower heating costs!!! *Disclaimer-This will entail substantially higher cooling costs.
-Better standard of Living! (Everyone else is dead, so you get the ENTIRE PLANET TO YOURSELF! NO DOWN PAYMENT! NO EXTRA FEES! ALL RECORDS OF PAST CREDIT COMPLETELY INGNORED! *user restrictions apply. Hurry, Start Your Global Warming TODAY!
-Lower deaths due to freezing! *Disclaimer-This will result in higher deaths due to burning.
OH, and as a SPECIAL BONUS! Lets make a topic about global warming, and then tell people to forget about global warming! A one time offer YOU CANT MISS
