We all know that it's a very popular sport in all over the world.Some do like to play it and some do like only watching.Some football clubs have lots of fan and some earn good on this game.If we think these all, wot makes this sport so popular... it's just a game that people get interested in anyway, but the fact is that if u ask someone what is the most popular sport, u would get an answer Football(Soccer) %80.I am wondering about the reasons that makes it so popular.It is true that this changes person to person,but it's the most popular sport for most of all at all.Now please tell me the reasons for it to be like that ...(I have one and will tell you that later 
) I think the reason for it is rather simple. You only need minimum of two players and a ball to play it. With other ball sports you usually need more than two players to have fun while playing.
The huge hordes of fans are so because of the way people have been raisen. Also some people only watch the matches between different nations.
But the funny part in "the most popular sport" question is that you never know what it really is, since you can ask all the people on this planet.
Football (soccer) is popular because it's fun to play and you don't get serious injuries when playing for fun, usually.
You right, but like I said the answer changes person to person and we have no chance to ask them all wot are their opinions about this matter in this planet right now O_o but I think it's still the most popular sport for me and will always be

it's not just an individual sport
more than a team sport it's a group sport (you and your friends)
it's easy to play
requires just a ball and 2 (or more) players (yes Frankn, that's a strong reason).
can be played almost anywhere (you can't play basketball or volleyball with your friends on the beach)
there are a lot of nuances in a football game (strategy, players abilities,luck,team spirit, leadership, fans,...)
kids play it and love it
Perhaps the last reason is the most important. It's something that is built back in the childhood. quite simply, football/soccer is the 'beautiful game'... there are different styles and forms fo it to suit and sportsfans 'desires'.. For example, the standard 11-a-side outdoor, 5 a side indoor, beach soccer etc.. and both long and short forms of the game... The best sport to watch when it is played skillfully at the top level

I agree to all of the reasons, you have written here. But you can even play it alone, u just need a ball.
Why so many people fill the stadium every week, or several times a week, is because the identify theirselves with their favourite team. Another point is the atmosphere in an "classic" stadium, like the Old Trafford in Manchester. In no other Sport a stadium has such a atmosphere (when you have been once their, you will believe me^^)Anfield Road is another of that places and the fans really support their team. That's a real show. Anfield = Not just on the field.
There's also an animal and primitive side of football. It's like a battle, your team must win in the end.

I think soccer is so popular because it is simple, yet there are so many different strategies, moves and competitions that it never gets boring. Other than most other sports, like American football, baseball and even basketball, the game isn't stopped every 10 seconds. Personally I get very bored during all those breaks.

To answer your question, I think it is the most popular because it can be played everywhere, you don't need a lot of equipment or a stadium for that matter, just an open space. It is CHEAP! Shoes (hell, these aren't even required) and a soccer ball. This allowed a lot of people who live in poverty to play the game, and there is a lot of people living in poverty.
Yeah Football is very easy to play, but is not easy to win, believe me ive played highly rated competitions involving teams from different countries and is not easy to win, the level you have either when you believe is high will alwasy be surpassed by somebody else.
Yeah sometimes you watch Football at TV and you can say it doesnt seem hard, but is though cux you cant stop at any time, you gotta be always paying attention to the game and you cant stop running at any time unless youre injured or something.
Imagine run 10 kilometers in one and a half hour.
If youve watched UCL, the players there have trained hardly to get that level and not all players can get that level of skills, they know theyre the top of the best in the world.
If you ever played competitive soccer youll know what i mean watching a Football game after playing a match.
I think the people in all countries where Football is the #1 sport respect the Professional players cuz most of em have played the game and they know is not easy.
Answering your main question i think Football is #1 sport cause of the World Cup, that event is the most watched, expected, paid, every 4 years and is by a simple reason 32 countries over the world go to play it.
Personally when i was a kid expecting the world cup was like expecting Christmas, cuz i knew it was an event which i would enjoy it.
It is like Olympic games, it is watched in all over the world in that period of time, even when your contry is not going people is watching it.
Football is great. It's the king of sports in the world.

You can actually play volleyball in a beach...its called Beach Volleyball, i live on an island so i know

But for me, im not into soccerSoccer is probably by far the most liked sport around the world. Soccer appeals to young, old, professional, amateur and most groups.
Its fun, exciting, easy, team oriented, fast paced (no stops every 5-10 seconds just like in baseball, tennis, football), and also watching a match is also much better. No timeouts or commercial breaks.
why soccer is so popular?? the skill you can see the tactics , the beautiful game played by the players. Its the guys game... 
compare to other games like golf... soccer has more action faster pase that why its more interesting...
