Canada has an embarassing record when it comes to the environment. you just have to look at what canadian mining companies are doing in canada and around the world. but this new plan by the tories is all a big smoke and lights show (literally since 2 main parts of the plan are with respect to banning regular light bulbs and smog, which won't really make a dent into greenhouse gas emissions). Considering Baird's presentations last week to our senate and at a public press conference, which was to say that doing anything with respect to kyoto was impossible and would create the worst recession canada has ever seen, this was a very surprising about face. the thing is that the presentation had just graphs going up and down but had no information and no explanation about how the graphs and figures were made, so the canadian public and media didnt really buy it. so now, constantly seeking seeking new ways to get ahead of the liberals in the polls, the tories have created this plan which both industry and environmentalists hate.
all this to say: whats your take on all of this (if you care about canadian politics)?

Smoke and lights indeed. I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that they've already wasted a year or the fact that it's too little, too late. I would be very suprised if this party ever sees a majority government in the next 50 years.
The Conservatives take the Canadian people to be far less intelligent than they are. It's an insult.
they are obviously trying to replicate the republican parties sucess by using the same tactics. the creation of the "war room" facility to create propaganda in preperation for the next election was obviously money not well spent. i wouldnt be surprised if last weeks anti kyoto "presentation" was made in that facility.
well bing a canadian my self I feel very strongly about this. and I am totly agenst this plan like the artical said just changinglight babls andcuting down ongreenhouse gasses wont make thatmuch of a difference changing over tosome other more frendlly wayofmaking power and the enger saving light things wouldprobblybemuch better and replasing werepossable allthe bad greenhouses gasses with somthingmoreinvermental frendly would be a much better approche to the problem instedof this dum plan of they have.
Frankly, environment truly isn't the major strenght of the conservative party. I know that they are right saying that we can't turn around in a second and stop everything right now, but I'd like them to stop laughing of the electors' intelligence about this matter. Few things are more important than environment, and especially not the tremendous development of Alberta. These bituminous sand industries are just one of the most hideous things of our country. If we tried to sell our goods elsewhere than in United States, I bet that it would be far easier to get environmental care to work...
