First place to look is Wikipedia and Wiktionary:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/history

Yes, history is related to story, although it seems that the word "story" comes from "history" rather than the other way around. HTH.

Yes I agree that story is part of history. Anyway, you can tell many stories but there is only one history. See the difference? Rolling Eyes

Well "history" is just a special word we use to mean "The Story" of the past. In French, histoire means both history and story.

well if you take it contextually, story and history are not thesame. History is a specified form of story. Stories includes fanfic, fiction, scifi , history and others. As far as my english is concern, story is a literary piece which a setting, a plot, climax and an end. WE could incorporate with this idea what we could history. Unlike story in a broader sense, a history is a documentary account/article of a certain event that happen at a specified period of time. Unlike some stories, fictional fact, history is more likely deviates from this characteristics. HIstory is the a record of the past not just any past but our past...

Exactly: history is a specific story. Look at the Wikipedia article I referenced for where the words come from.
