TWO teenagers who wanted to experience murder told police it "felt right" to strangle a friend and bury her body in a shallow grave beneath her West Australian home.
I just read this article and it simply shocked me. This seems to come straight from a horror story.
Quote:
"Sunday morning me and (her) woke up, and we were just talking, and for some reason we just decided to kill her," one of the girls told police in her interview.
Quote:
The girls regretted the fuss the killing caused but neither felt remorse for their dead friend, Mr Stone said.
It's just unbelievable.
I'm reading a book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. In said book, Capote describes the killer(s) as a natural killer. One who is completely sane, completely conscious, and totally aware -- but can kill with absolutely no remorse. It is a rarity in the population, and a trait people are born with.
Scary, isn't it?
This incident reminds me a lot of "natural killers".
Oh man, that is just too scary.

I agree--I think I've read something similar back in Psych class.
Could it be a genetic mutation--their brains were wired differently? Or is there a lack of neurotransmitters?
People like these are those who sound like the convicts who are barred in high-security prison cells and are monitored 24 hours a day.
The fact that these are both 17 year-old girls adds to the "shock" factor. This is the stuff we see in morbid short stories/movies.
This part also added to the shock:
Quote:
He said the girls had discussed killing someone else and one had prepared for homicide by killing two kittens.
They even had some "practice".
I read about that. It's scary to think that there are people like that out there. The fact that they even went so far as to 'help' the family look for the girl is also creepy.
People like that could have got away with killing a lot more if they wanted to.
The fact that they turned themselves in and told the police what happened adds to the mystery. If they don't have a conscience then why did they feel the need to do that?
Scary and strange.
May be they are mentally ill. Otherwise seems to be unbelievable.
I know this isn't specifically about the two girls from Australia, but i think it is related to the question of the psychology of remorseless murder...
Does anyone remember the Scott Peterson case in the US where he was convicted of murdering his heavily pregnant wife, Laci Peterson?
The general consensus of the forensic psychiatrists working on the case was that he was a sociopath. Below is an excerpt from Time magazine with forensic psychiatrist Keith Ablow, who wrote the book Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson.
Quote:
GG: Why do you regard Scott Peterson as a sociopath?
KA: Basically, the core human characteristic that I think is so magnificent, and that allows us to relate to human beings as human beings, is empathy. For Scott Peterson and the rest of sociopaths, they don't have that. Having been crushed psychologically in childhood, they have made a decision to live in denial of their own feelings. Once they no longer feel fear, or any kind of real love or anxiety themselves, they no longer can feel any of those things for anyone else. They can't resonate with the pain of others. So they're free, in a terrible way, to do very bad things at that point. |
Quote:
GG: Was he born a sociopath, or made one by his past?
KA I've found no one to be born a sociopath. In every case I've looked at, the story is—once revealed—very, very compelling. The story of their destruction as a person is very obvious. |
...If this is the case with these girls, they must have had a really terrible upbringing...

You all seem to perceive/describe these girls as 'freaks' and 'abnormalities', but why? I'm sure many people could kill without regret, without second thought.
These girls thought, 'Hey, what would it be like to kill someone?'
And they found out.
Experiment over.
Now they know, and, in the heart of true experimentative science, have reached a conclusion based on their findings, I'm sure. We could even say that their conclusion yields few results affecting their persona or character traits. Granted, their environment has changed due to their new location in jail (They're probably there, anyway), but they probably still sct the same there as they did outside of jail.
That is very odd. I mean, who would feel pleasure form killing somebody else? It is just wrong.
"We have indeed created man in the best of moulds,
Then do We abase him (to be) the lowest of the low"
Surah 95
Who said they found peasure in it? Who said it's wrong to? Who determins these things? Sounds like this post is going to become something religious soon if the same people keep posting on it.
We should keep this just to the facts, and make speculation only when such speculation (predictions, guesses, wonders, etc.) can be productive in the conversation. things like 'omfg, thats soooo wrizong' are not helpful.
That's very scary. Sociopathic teenage girls... what a shock! Now, if they were guys...
really shocking!!! the grls feel like murdering someone and they do it. some frnd they r. wouldn't wanna cross their path. it's amazing why they did it in the first place. i mean, experiencing smoking or drinking for the first time would have been more practical but killing a frnd for the fun of it is absurd. they should get their heads checked.
The girls are mad to have done something like this. :s
I cannot believe this, it almost seems phony. Due to the fact that they are teenagers, would it be wrong to say that their common sense would tell them NOT to do this? Like, that maybe the police WILL find out, and that it IS wrong? Or do they not have any common sense?
This brings up the question on how the parenting is. Are the parents of these sad young girls that bad that they can't, even at a young age, be able to let their daughters know the difference between right and wrong?
It's almost scary. What will be next? Killing for pleasure; for the 'hell' of it? I sincerely hope these girls get what they deserve.
In fact life is so wonderful, we should take a positive vision to look at the world, Even though we are not currently in a good time
people like that sicken me. I just hope that they get locked up for the rest of their life or the death penalty, that kind of carnage, immorality, and lack of empathy for human life will make it so that they'll just do it again. So I hope they were punished to the full extent of the law.

I GUESS YOU WOULDN'T TALK LIKE THIS IF THEY KILLED YOUR LITTLE SISTER OR DAUGHTER!!!
Stop thinking like scientific "geniuses" and think like a human -- what would it be like if I were in that situation.
It seems like they have had a hard time in life. I'm not exactly a expert but I see no other real explanation either that or they are naturally strange in the head.
Heard about it too, sure is insane.. Ok I can admit that I've thought about what it would feel like to kill someone, (I think most of us have thought about it) but I would never evolve my wonderings into action. Something must be seriously wrong with these 2 girls..
It's horrible... Killing people because you feel like it? They should be committed to a mental institution... For life.
If I had my way, everybody who murdered somebody should be stabbed in the stomache and be locked in a room to die.

Yeah.. So is the sexist world we live in. Men can commit crimes, but when females do it's unbelievable

Have been that way for forever (more or less), starting with the fact that men do have more muscles then women do, means we are more dangerous to face (this is back in the stoneage) and that have followed us all the way til today.. men hit first, ask questions later, and girls are usually better with words and think first.. so sexistic world? or just something we were born in to?

Its kinda hard to know the inside of someone's mind being someone else. Its like somebody like metal, others pop and then some hip hop. To me all seems like different choices for different people. We're all crazy in different ways/for different reasons. Right and wrong look different from diferent perspectives.
Who am I condemn them. I may have never killed anyone but doesn't mean I've never wanted to.
I guess it is just their way of having fun. Instead of doing something normal people would do they kill.
Strange however there is definatley a problem underlying.

It seems a little odd, then, that two girls of the same age should both happen to be "natural killers" and be friends. What are the odds of that?
But, it's definitely pretty shocking. Not so much the age to me, but the fact that they could be so casual about it. Eerie.
So, Defnet, you disagree with me. Why? You say to act human, and I most certainly am. And I do not call myself a scientific genius, that was you...but aren't they human as well?
those girls must be mentally ill... they7 killed there own friend
Why does that have to MEAN anything? Like I've said, curiosity killed...haha. My bad, right there.
But seriously, why do you all think this? I'm looking for a discussion, but so far most people post simply q-sentence replies. It's more beneficial to us all if people would start actually posting good, substantial responses for the sake of a continuing discussion.
Psychopathology. Period. She was born with no feelings. Mentally ill.
Killing another human is definatly insane. feeling good after commiting the act is so absurd.
I think having her head checked out in this case might just be an understatement.
She should go down on her kneels and pray to the good LORD to give her the sirenity to understand what she did.
Come to think of it i'm not sure they were friends, cause a frend is suppose to watch your back, not stab you in the back.

Oh well when they get out they could be world leaders "watch out bush somone is after your job "
thats sickening. "Felt right?"
the only time id ever be able to slaughter someone without remorse is if theyve raped someone or worse. But a friend?!
This is so unbelievable "it felt right". Where are these girls minds at. So you are mad at someone and you just decide to kill them like that *snaps fingers*. This is so sick and these girls deserve whatever they get. I mean come on these girls aren't 7 they are 15 and 16 or whatever. This is someones child that they killed and the both of them just thought of it of a fun little game. Well I hope they think prison is fun because thats where they are going to be for the rest of their lives. No remorse at all for killing someone just joy..so retarded.
I did find the link about sociopaths interesting. The psychologist in question saying that all sociopaths are made that way. If that's the case then the chances of two sosciopaths knowing each other are better than they would have been otherwise, since at least some of their environmental factors are the same.
I did read statistics on Wikipedia that implied that Australia produces more than a fair share of serial killers (who are often sociopaths), perhaps there is something in the air. I guess Australia is a dreadful place.
It would be interesting to know those girls better. Probably pretty scary, but interesting.
kristin2311, just to clarify, they were both 17. Way old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, and waaaaaay, old enough to know not to kill people.
I just told a friend about this and he said "Is there a picture of them? Are they hot?"
Sometimes I wonder.
You know...I used to be surprised after reading news like this. But after reading article after article similar to this, you just get used to it. I know that's horrible, but that's what humanity is coming to. Nothing people do anymore shock me. It is really quite troubling and sad.
Somehow this reminds me of Nevada. Not "Nevada" as in the state, but as in the nickname given to an unnamed japanese killer.
Nevada-tan was an 11-year old japanese girl who sliced her best friend's neck and arms with a box cutter and left her to bleed to death at school. Supposedly this happened because her friend posted something on her website that made her mad (some sort of insult), and Nevada-tan got back at her on the next day. This event happened back in 2004 and was also known in Japan as the "Sasebo Slashing".
