Copyrights are there to protect an individuals property, be it intellectual or otherwise.

As far as I know Frihost is copyrighted....does it prohibit or obstruct knowledge in any way?

The knowledge is out there, and made public, for you to observe and learn from, copyrights only keep you from stealing it and calling it your own.
