Installing phpBB2 with WAMP

frymaster8
alright, I have Wamp set up... I think... At least the apache part of it is set up. I can type in localhost in my browser and get my directory. But how would I set up phpBB2? I already extracted it into my web folder (by default in wamp it is C:/wamp/www) But I tried to install it and i don't know how to install the MySQL and the PHP part of it. Anyone have help or ideas? And, how would I remotely access my website (like when I am not on my server, how can I access the thing that I can now access by http://localhost) I tried typing in http://My.Ip that thing, but just using my internet IP. That didn't work, it asked for a username and password, which I never set up.
Welp if anyone has any information it would be greatly apreciated! Smile

You are able to set up phpbb very easily. If you already have a password for you WAMP Mysql then this will be even easier. If not, don't ask me.

Alright, once you have your browser and Wamp open, go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin
or
http://your.ip/phpmyadmin

Then you should find a table (on the main page, if you are already logged in) that says "Create Database". Type in the database name and your set

Now, for the login and stuff

for the MYSQL username: YOURMYSQLUSERNAME
for the mysql database - YOURMYSQLUSERNAME_YOURDATABASENAME
for the password: YOURMYSQLPASSWORD

I hope this helps, im probally confuzzing you way more.

Hope this helps! :S

ok well then does anyone know how to set up the password?
Manofgames
usually its root, and a blank password.
Have you access to your mysql console? (Its like a command prompt window, but its somewhere in the MYSQL folder)

Last time I tried to install a forum software with my WAMP I was unable to because of the blank password... I don't know how to set the password, I tried editing the mysql config, but I got nowhere. Maybe google?

ya i am unsure of how to do this. I don't know how to set up the blank password. When I am at the install screen of phpbb2, i fill in the boxes and click start install and it says cannot connect to database

If you don't mind me asking, why don't you just use Frihost? Its easily compatible with mysql, and it makes hosting MUCH easier.

If you just want to try to screw around before you host a real thing, then maybe instead of WAMP, use Xampp, last time I checked, phpmyadmin will ask for a password before the first time you use your mysql.

Xampp Includes:

SMTP Server (Mail - No clue how to get it working)
FTP Server (Very good and easy to setup)
Apache (Web Server)
MYSQL + Phpmyadmin (Database + handler)

Full features on the site.

You can download Xampp here:

Just follow from there, and your done!

Hope this helps!
