protest over gere and shilpa shetty kiss

riyadh
there were huge protests in india after richard gere kissed bollywood actress shilpa shetty on the cheeks several times in public during a promotion to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. the situation has even been taked to court by three lawyers.

the thing is...with the movies that r coming out each year which let's just say r not for children under the age of 16 or 18. and a kiss on the cheek is nothin compared to them movies. the lawyers probably didn't have anything to do so they thought they would take this to court. this is a sign of hypocrisy. rather than taking these silly matters to court, they should look into all the movies tht are coming out filled with obscene images. maybe the lawyers and womens' rights group don't worry about the movies so much cos they like watching these things if u knw wat i mean!!!

What I find interesting is that effigies of the two were burned just hours after the incident..

I have always been interested about the burning of effigies as a means of protest... do they have a collection of them stored somewhere ready for the next incident?

How do people organise themselves so quickly?

Personally I think it was blown out of all proportion, but not surprising in the slightest... It seems a daily occurance that people take offense and burn something...

And where do they get the flags from to burn? whenever I see any footage of a protest in Iran / Iraq etc they have a US/ UK flag and are burning it... is there a store in the city that just sells them for this purpose...

yes it does seem these grps don't have anything better to do.
Few days back some grp vandalised the office of a leading news channel only b'coz they aired and supported a story of a sindhi girl marrying a muslim boy.
In this case as well...it was only some kisses on the cheek...but it was blown way out of proportion.
But another interesting thing to notice is the timing of the controversies. Every time a celebrity is caught in a controversy, it either just before or just after a movie starring that celebrity is released.
Metro starring Shilpa shetty is due to be released in 1-2 weeks.

Its true that what we see on Indian TV channels is far from reality.
Its sometimes funny to see how they depict women on TV channels, Half Naked wildly shaking women making hilarious moves just to express a few sentiments of love. While in reality a simple hug and kiss has caused violent protests.

The only one to blame is NEWS MEDIA.

They make an "EVENT" out of nothing:

A few dimheads protest over something? then show them on TV!

Any politician willing to spread his "message"? Go prime time!

More than 5 people died together? NATIONAL TRAGEDY! Make a promo of it for a few days!

A real tragedy (like VirginiaTech)? Live Transmissions, hours of talkshows, documentaries etc for months! Tell everything about the killer (what he usuallly eats, what movie he saw last night). The victims? who cares about them? Show only a picture of them at most!

An actress got divorced? Make a special report one hour long!

Terrorists, madmen, quacks or the plain stupid got what they want: PUBLICITY!

SOLUTION: Don't watch TV News (read internet news instead)! They care only about ratings so they'll blow everything out of proportion to make you glue to the screen!

Just a bunch of stupid people who are looking for publicity. Kinda funny they protest that it is against the culture when its the land of Kama Sutra and Khajuraho.
Anyone else notice that the protesting people have some political connections in one way or another.

ainieas, u read my mind. now all u knw wat i meant by typical indian hypocrisy. it is the land where kama sutra originated. it's the last place where any kind of affection be seen as a taboo.

Though not surprising that people rioted I was slightly shocked at the magnitude of the outrage. I mean, c'mon... India has an arrest warrant out for him?

What the hell?

What do all of these protesters do? Sit there and wait for the next thing to happen, so they can take to the streets only minutes later?

Honestly...
