Marraige stirrs controversy in India, TV channel attacked

Hindus attacked a TV channel office to protest the marraige of a Hindu Girl with a Muslim boy. They thought the channel was denigrating Hinduism by promoting love between people from different religions.
Marriage outside ones own caste, religion and background is frowned upon in much of officially secular, Hindu-dominated India. Romantic liaisons between Hindus and Muslims have sparked riots.

this is so absurd. sometimes, honestly, indian ppl (i.e. indian hindus) get on nerves. just because hinduism is the dominating religion in india doesn't mean a girl or a boy can't have a relationship with someone of another religion. i'm a muslim and yes we can only marry grls of other religions if e convert them first (this excludes christian grls). a muslim biy can marry a christian grl without converting her to islam. and one other thing is tht hindus have always hated muslims. they can never seem to live in peace. here in Bangladesh muslim is the state religion but tht doesn't mean ppl of other religions get discriminated upon. india is so much more developed than us and yet they are such narrow minded.

You have any idea what "Secular" means ?
You have any idea what "Republic" means ?

Neither, if you're a Pakistani.


And getting the count of members of every religion to be equal is very difficult - especially in a population of over a billion.
There will almost always be more members of one community than the other - or as you say - one community will "dominate".
What do you suggest be done about that ?

So on one hand you have a country which protects, by law, your right to marrying a person of any religion, sect, community.
And on the other, a country where inter-religion marriage actually means both partners should be Muslims - converted if not already so.

Again, I love the blatant hypocricy.

Ah ! I see. Amnesty International, however, doesn't quite agree with that.
You sure are well placed to gabble about discrimination, seeing how you come from a country that proclaims itself as Muslim.
Why don't we talk about that when you have had a non-muslim leader of state ?




Now on to the incident in question, if you actually knew as much as you profess - you'd probably know that the girl in question is a minor by age.
Eloping with a minor girl is punishable by law in India. It's understandable if people are angry over such news being played out as an example of inter-religion harmony.


Besides, it was a bunch of people driven desperate as they're no longer winning elections on the basis of religious propaganda.
