Come on people put some effort in. Tell us why theyre your favourite albums!
1) Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F#A# infinity
This album is a stunning piece of work. Efrim is an absolute idol. I remember listening to this and be smacked in the face with awe at the beauty of this music.
2) Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The very first band i ever got into. Possibly one of the most influential albums in my life. It never ceases to amaze me everytime i pick it up and has always been a classic which i can go back to at any time.
3) Tool - Laterallus
Another hugely influential album. The very beginnings of my taste for progressive music. Its dark yet brilliantly composed.
4) Battles - Mirrored
I only just got this album the start of this month but my god this album is amazing. epC/epB was one of my favourite albums of last year and well this kicks its arse into next week. Highly inventive and the musicality is amazing.
5) A Silver Mt Zion - Born into trouble as the sparks fly upward
A silver mt zion - yet another of Efrim Muneck's stunning projects. This album is beutifully put together and after watching a silver mt zion live they quickly became one of my favourite bands. Their live shows are possibly the best i have ever been to and ive been to a fair few gigs and well once youve seen them live this album becomes 10 times better.
6) Squarepusher - Hello Everything
Many will probably disagree but i think this is squarepushers best work yet. There are parts of this album that seem to lose direction although the other choice would be ultravisitor. I love ultravisitor but i dunno for me thisdoes everything that i have wanted to hear from squarepusher although a little more horrible effects and bass slappery ultravisitor stylee wouldnt go amis.
Sigur Ros - ()
Dont even try and tell me ..takk is the best piece of work this band have done. Iv had over te last year been told so many times that takk is amazing. maybe its my taste for dark music but takk is nothing on this. I have always said this is the same album as takk only far far darker and better written imo.
9) Radiohead - Kid A
One of the first albums that got me into electronic music. The first time i guess i truly realised that bands can do electronic music and doesnt have to be all guitars and drums and bass. This album is trly amazing and has inspired my musical direction hugely.
10) The Arcade Fire - Funeral
I so want to see these live. Another album to make last year a great year for music. They remind me slightly of a silver mt zion but in a totally different way. Beautifully composed and even more beautifully executed and performed.
11) Lemon Jelly - KY
Ah this album is ace. welcome to the uber chill. i dont know what to say about this album apart fom tha nk you for being the soundtrack to one of the best years of my life.
i know thats an extra on but that also deserves to be there

My Favourite Albums:
Trivium - Ascendancy
First Metalcore Album I listened to....amazing imo, Matt's voice hadn't fully developed into his now "Thrash" voice, and it suited the style of music imo. One of the only albums where I liked all of the songs.
Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache
This is a great album, it has a very aggressive harsh sound which makes it even better, first Album with Howard as their Singer, and possibly the best they have ever made.
Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames
Fantasic album, what it lacks in quantity it makes up with in quality. My only complaint is 1 or 2 of the songs sound too samey
Breaking Benjamin - Phobia
I love this album, it's amazing how they can go from a more alternative metal style to Rock style depending on the song. Must have.
Trivium - The Crusade
After leaving behind their metalcore sound, and becoming more of an 80s thrash band, the band you could most compare them to is 80s Metallica, not a bad compliment.

Wow, there's a really nice variety to the choices here, even in the same people's list! You guys are awesome, I'd probably be boring and just list a bunch of stuff that I've bought lately. Which makes it that much harder to justify listing them in a Favorite Album list..

Ok, these may or may not be my actual favorite 10 albums, but they are albums that I currently love. There are more, but these stood out as I ran through my collection. Also just going with my actual CD collection and not mp3 albums. In no particular order.
Julie Doiron: Will You Still Love Me? - Sparse, quiet, introspective, emotive, expressive, real. Julie has been a favorite artist for about 10+ years, starting with her bass work with Eric's Trip to her solo stuff. This is her first solo album that I heard and contains many gems that I love. Pretty much the epitome of minimalist, folk inspired Canadian indie; while she's often vocally off key, it's part of her charm and it invites you to take a journey into her personal experiences like no other.
XTC: Apple Venus Vol. 1 - Quirky, experimental, poppy... while simultaneously expressing English middle age in an engaging manner. Andy Partridge pulls together more of his classic pop melody work with interesting hooks and phenomenal arrangements, dabbling in orchestra just enough to be engaging, but not so much as to be overdone... His sense of sarcasm and cleverness are readily experienced. Pop music that isn't quite pop.
The Cure: Pornography - This was a tough call, as the Cure have multiple amazing albums, but I'm going to give it to Pornography for the dark, depressing atmosphere and exceptionally expressive drumming. It's not often that drums are one of the most emotionally driving instruments in a song/album, but this album has it from start to finish. Dark themes, dark sounds, interesting rhythmic work with good melodies, it's an angst rollercoaster.
Hayden: Everything I Long For - More Canadian folk-y indie. Hayden pulls together introspective, personal songwriting with a mix of power and grit and soft tones with down-tuned acoustic guitar. Moving themes of loss and longing push you along through this album. Great for getting to know yourself. I could have just as easily chosen his "The Closer I Get" album as a favorite, but went with the first one that influenced me.
Everyone in Cars: True Feelings and the Drug - I think these guys were my favorite band to ever come out of my local music scene. Bass rocked through a vintage Ampeg SVT w/ 8x10 cabinet and immaculate drumming, this couple of brothers put together some amazing tracks with more rock and grit than you can shake a stick at. Extremely full sound for two instruments. The album has the most interesting cover of Stevie Wonder's Part-Time Lover that I've ever heard. It'll make you dance and want more.
Mike O'Neill: The Owl - The first Mike O'Neill solo album I heard; combines Mike's flair for clever lyrical work and intense vocal harmonization with relatively simple instrument work that invites you on an internal adventure. Horrah for introspection. I sure love my Canadian indie music
The Inbreds: It's Sydney or the Bush - Bass guitar and a 4-piece drum kit and multiple vocal tracks, mmmm harmonies. Sure I already mentioned Mike O'Neill, but the Inbreds were different than Mike's stuff
Joel Plaskett: In Need of Medical Attention - One of Joel's more country/folk influenced albums, written in a strong depression; the songs are a collection of moving, introspective tracks that still display Joel's flair for clever songwriting. Lots of pain and hopelessness, but beautiful melodies and more heart than you can shake a stick at. Joel can rock it as much as anyone, but his slower, darker side is simply phenomenal.
Sloan: Twice Removed - Another band with a catalogue worth mentioning, but I'll go with the album that I listened to most in high school and was so important at the time. Voted Canada's #1 album of all time in Chart magazine multiple times (they redo the list every couple years), its surprisingly poorly known amongst the populace. AMAZING indie pop rock out of Halifax; the boys of Sloan combine humour with musical craftsmanship and very personal experiences to write songs that will perfectly describe pretty much every situation you might need to identify with as a youth. The songs range from from lamentous to sarcastic to straight up rockers. The bass on this album had a fair influence on my own style.
the Super Friendz - Mock Up, Scale Down - Mid-90s indie rock; modern stylings with vintage tones; stripped down with just enough complexity. Yet again, superb lyrical work with clever turns of phrase out the wah-zoo complement some excellent instrumental work with pop hooks to catch all the fish in the sea. Every track is a winner, not a dud on the album.
Honourable mentions to (excluding other Cure and Sloan albums):
The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving; Peter Elkas - Party of One; New Order - Substance; The Local Rabbits - This is It, Here we Go; Eric's Trip - Forever Again; Ben Kweller - Sha Sha; Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy; BB King - Why I Sing the Blues; Stevie Ray Vaughan - Couldn't Stand the Weather; Black Sabbath - Paranoid; Jorane - Vent Fou; Barenaked Ladies - Gordon, etc.
