htaccess Problem

I need to have it so that when another site tries to display an image in either of two folders that isn't there, it shows another image (depending on which folder). I know you can do it with htaccess, but I have no clue how, as it is kinda confusing, and I can't find a good tutorial, lol...

So if someone could help me, or get me started down the right path...

Try googling for htaccess hotlinking. Seems that %{HTTP_REFERER} holds some potential power and can be parsed to extract the domain. When you think you've accomplished the task, the first google result came with a hotlink tester. The second link came with an htaccess generator.
