I couldn't find a post on this so I've made my own, who do you think will win the tour this year - personally my favorite to win is Ivan Basso, although will he make it to the start line?
Tour de France 2007
all up in the air at the moment alright.Basso would definitely be a good bet although what about Oscar Pereiro. Good thing is that it should be wide open and make it alot more exciting to watch.
Well.. It will be interesting to sea how's the Tour will work without Amstrong - second year.
Last year it ended with a very sad way, hope that in the year it will be better.

i hope this time no one will be suspected of dope or caught. Or gets accused of using dope while he never touched it, sometimes it really screws everything up for some, just like for Ulrich last year and a few oters.

To be honest I doubt Oscar has a chance against Basso, Armstrong himself said that "Basso could well be the future of the tour". I personally think it is almost certain that had he not been stopped from entering the Tour, he would have won. Although I do agree that it will be an exciting Tour to watch, I'm going down to London to watch the prologue - should be fun!

As do I, last year's Tour certainly didn't do much for cycling's credibility.

I disagree with you on the second point - if they dope they should be caught, cycling may have experienced some harsh blows but I think that the sport's honest approach to drugs is unmatched by any other sport.
anyway it should be a great tour, as hopefully it will be pretty open and make it quite exciting to watch
Italian star Ivan Basso was suspended by the Discovery Channel team on Tuesday following renewed suspicions of involvement in the Madrid doping clinic busted nearly a year ago in the Spanish police investigation called Operation Puerto.
looks like you'll have to nominate someone else, basso has been suspended

Let's rewake the topic, because the Tour has already been started in London. Prologue of tour was winned by Fabian Cancellara, that showed excellent result in the race.
Now he wears yellow shirt, green shirt is his too, and white shirt wears V. Gusev from Russia.
So, what do you think about chances?

I hated it that Australian Robbie McEwen fell during the short prologue.
Last year he won a bunch of stages in just the last few meters.
He's an exciting rider.
If he's improved his climbing, he could take it.
George Hincappie looks like he has matured a bit physically
so he has a very good chance.
In the Saab contest, I haven't seen any code words yet,
Yesterday, I did get "Big Ben" to work.
Today I got "peloton" to work.

I would like to hear what website you like to get your TDF info from.

I think Vinokourov has the biggest chances to win this year's Tour. Still Valverde is a good mountain rider and could be fighting for the win.
Let's see the first mountain stages and how the big names will pass them.

I personally prefer eurosport for the TDF coverage there is great live comentary online. I've been looking for a site that shows live tv coverage online but couldnt find one. Anyone know of any??
I am looking for somewhere to watch it online live for free, any ideas? All I have is 30mins highlights on at 1:15am!
Who saw McEwan's sprint the other day? That was amazing! He just shot up there!
I am rooting for the brits in the TdF this year, like Millar. It surprised me that he didn't try to defend his green jersey yesterday, and those two who proke off of the peloton to catch up on the two leaders were amazing! They bolted up 4:00 over the course of something like 5km! Who got the points for the sprint?
I am relying on the various tickers and IRC channels to try and keep track of it without TV. What about you guys?

I'm watching Eurosport; they have daily Tour de France live broadcasts.
An impressive win by Thor Hushovd today, too bad Boonen wasn't there. I think he's still mad with the win he missed in the third stage.

In the United states no one watches this anymore since lance is gone lol.
I still watch the Tour de Lance!

Finally Boonen won a stage
... Well he did deserved it. I hope to see more of these sprints in the next flat stages.
yeaah, Belgian guy Boonen has finally won again in the TDF, Hope to see a good stage tomorrow
.
Climbing these mountains sure would suck.
Those guys are machines.
Even machines break down.

Amazing stage yesterday! The mountain stages rock! i expect we will see lots of uber-fast climber breakaways over the next few stages! Linus Gerdemann was away! He got the Maillot Jaune too! Spectacular finish...

If they use doping they won't break down easily
Rasmussen is going to do it again, winning the mountains price, And he is first but he will need to attack because he is hopeless in time trials. So we can expect a very next stage.
Greats,
Stage 8 annihilated Australia and T-mobile.
I went on a skiing holiday in Tignes in 2001.
It's cool to see it again in the summer.
I can guarantee you those roads are steep and long.
I bought a pair of snowblades and a set of collapsible ski pole in Tignes.
My ski helmet that I always wear came from Val-desire where stage 9 starts.
Does anyone know what that local liquor is called that comes in flat bottles?
It was kind of a pale green, and they like to serve it over ice cream.
I think it's related to absinthe, and made from local wormwood flowers
from elevations over 2000meters.
But , they call it something else and I can't remember the name.

BIG BIG mountain stage tomorrow: 2770 - Col de l'Iseran and 2645 - Col du Galibier , both HC climbs !
I don't know if Rasmussen can keep his first place. Too many good riders in less than 4 minutes. And if he isn't with the peloton on Col du Galibier he could lose his position. And yes, Vinokourov must do something to overcome his time loss. So watch out for Astana team!
This should be interesting. Very interesting

I hope he does, I like seeing Rabobank in the first rows. A bit of love for the team from my own country.

well todays news has really thrown a spanner in the works, how could he have been so stupid to try something now....welll hold on a sec I should really wait till the B sample comes through but the fact that the astena team have withdrawn probably confirms it.
I was thinking it was nearly too good for him to come back and win the stage as he looked really bad the day before. I guess its just another scandal has to deal with and try to overcome

HE WAS SO STUPID! Now he has ruined his team's chances too, he probably took them after that 26 minute loss. I am beginning to wonder if Rasmunsen (hope I spelt that right) could be involved too, that time trial result was simply astonishing for someone who is normally not good at things like that...

Perhaps he is involved too ... or not. Still I didn't see Rasmussen doing so well in a big Tour. Who knows what talent did this guy has
Rassmussen seemed unstoppable.
Until the news has just reported that he has been removed from the race for
"internal rules violations"
what the heck does that mean?

He missed two out-of-competition drug tests and lied about not beeing in Europe at that time, so Rabobank team fired him for this. I have no idea how they discovered this. I thought he was the second rider that has failed the drug tests and I had a big shock reading this news.

Why do people choose to ruin their careers like that? They will never be trusted again! Even after their 2 year ban, no teams would want to welcome them back and everybody would hate them. The same goes for Vinokourov...
Well all most the same thing happend to Ullrich ... and he returned to competition but again he faced another doping charges and he's history now
I have no idea why they compete since they know everybody will watch them and they will have lots of doping controls.
Too bad for Vino ... he was a nice guy

Levi will now be on the podium in Paris.
He was looking very strong there at the end of the Pyrenees.
I dought if he will be able to make up much time in Saturdays time trial.

Hi there,
What ever that Michael Rasmussen missed these drug tests, is the fact that he had several drug test under the tour, that all was negative. I'm not 100% sure if Michael made mistakes, cause how ever that UCI has their Anti-doping rules or not, does the convention about human rights rule. Michael lives in Italy with her family, and I think that it could happen that he was visiting her family at the same time he tried to carring his job.
By the way, so has all this harmed the tour de france, and I don't think that we would like to see that tour de france we like to see next year, and in worst case, do I think that tour de france is down and out forever. R.I.P.
Cheers!

Perhaps is true what you are saying, perhaps it isn't. We can't now what really happened. Yet
But Le Tour is now dead, like you said. Too bad. I loved those duels between Armstrong and Ullrich, even if they were using doping substances.
Tomorrow's time trial should pick the winner, still I don't think Leipheimer will win. He needs 3 min. But anything is possible.
Evans is better than Contador in time trials?
And Tour de France is almost over and we know the name of the winner!!!
Surprise for me was that Vinokurov was disqualified for dopping use... He had so much chances...
And the winner is... *drums* Alberto Contador!!!
Chances that someone will take the lead over him are so low, that I think he will win this year's Tour.
I'm just surprised...

What a finish!
Only 31 sec between first and third.
Levi might have won it if he had been the team leader.
He pulled Contador up those mountain stages instead of riding them for himself.
I'd be surprised if Cadel Evans tries to make a race into Paris.

Would Contador have made as good of a domestique as Levi has?
Could team Discovery of had 2 of the top 3 spots with any other role designations?
From a team aspect it was brilliant.
I still feel Levi had a better performance than Contador.
But, I don't know if Levi would have been able to beat Cadel Evans
if Contador had been his domestique.

Well, it's over now.
Contador won yellow and white jersey, Boonen (thanks God!) got green sprint jersey and polka dot jersey went for some rider from Barloworld which surname I can't remember
Sad... I expected that Karpets or Popovich will take the win. But Popovich is 8th, that's not bad for Ukranian

Nice win by Contador, since Rasmussen and Vinokourov (if he hadn't crashed) were kicked out of the Tour.
If it wasn't the trial stages I'm sure he would have won with a bigger time difference.
Also, great job by Boonen and that colombian guy, who's name I don't remember too

yeah but the tour does have time trials, so he didnt win by a bigger margin.
if cadel had a better team i don't think there is any doubt that he would have won.
ohh well all we now is contador to get caught and cadel will have the tour.

Hi there,
I have to answer this reply. Yes, Contador did take the tour, but even that there has been questionmarks regarding Contador's doping history, doesn't it make any further consequenses??? Strange!!!! I think that there might had been something deeper under this years tour that we ever would like to know about, but now can I say for sure, that Le Tour wouldn't ever bee the same. As it doesn't have any thing to do about doping or true condisions to do, but money...BIG money. I think that Contador allready had won the tour before it even had started.
So this might be the end of this story....
Cheers! and R.I.P. again
Nobody cares about the tour de France anymore as ALL the top candidates are doping and everybody else as well.. they just overplayed it. Sponsors will not invest money anymore and the Tour will slowly lose everything..
I think the Tour was more exciting when Armstrong, Ullrich and all other "doped" riders were involved. It was more interesting too see the fight for the 1st (usually 2nd place).
Now it's too boring.
I hope Vuelta will strike back

I just love this sport! I would love to participate...
Hi there,
Just to finish the Rasmussen discussion, would I just conclude that as the trial still going on, that he was innocent and just tried to carring his family, what seems to be illigal business regarding Rabobank.
Le Tour died this year!
R.I.P.
Cheers!
