small fonts smoothing without ClearType?

I must work on some PC with Windows XP and with (rgb) LCD. I like smooth fonts, but ClearType implementation is realy horrible. (FreeType is better for me but it is not for windows)
Is there ability to switch on standart font smoothing also for small fonts?
I can't google it.

I'm not sure about selectively turning on cleartype, but you can tune cleartype using the tool found at the url below.

I'm not sure why. My eyes hurt with all ClearType settings.

I don't want to switch on ClearType selectively. I want keep it off and turn on standard font smoothing for all font size.
