so when you die, how would you feel if it turned out there is no god or heaven or what ever it is you believe, i know your dead and there wouldbe no way of knowing, but if you somehow knew your life had been wrong, would you be botherd?

Question 1: After you're dead, what's left? You have to make an assumption that a soul (or some or the other form of consciousness) does exist after you're dead to be able to see/feel/touch heaven or whatever was supposed to be on the other side.

Question 2: If there is a consciousness after death, then there has to be something after death. If it's not heaven or hell, what could it be?

I am going to live forever
so it doesn't bother me about life after

Feeling might not be the appropriate word. more: what would you experience? And I don't know what will bother me and I'm not a selfish believer, like: 'when i behave right i will go to heaven'.
I try to behave right anyway, and i don't need anything in return.

that's a wrong question, i think...why aren't we living in peace with each other?...why are we still making weapons and financing war? why are we still sending our children off to war?...why aren't we examining our lives fully so questions like this are irrelevant?...

say the after life is a big bus depot...we're all there after the body dies...what's there? your stinkin' small violent selfish brain with all the worries you had while you were alive? All the suffering, the fear, the jealousy? If you're not gettin' it straight now, jeez, why go on?...

it's funny how people complain about life and how unfair it is, all the suffering, the pain, loss, and how everyone is like sayin' life's too short...

i'm totally focused here and now, this afterlife stuff is for you guys who are bored or something...

My thoughts on death and religion are actually quite simple.

In, in fact, I die and nothing exists after death - than I lived no less of a lif here on earth, believing in something, having faith, hope, and love.

If there is something after death, then I am fully prepared for it... Or at least in the process of preparing.

So it's basically a win-win situation.
jwellsy
Woo-Hoo, that would be the time to party.

But if the reverse was true and you find out there is consequences for your actions, you probably will wish you had led a different life.

After you die, it only takes a few minutes/hours for your brain to lose enough brain cells to the point where you cannot ask that question, and considering that it takes 3 days for your body to ressurect, you'd never truly know. This is without sedatives. If you actually had sedatives like possibly 90% of those who die in the modern world chances are you wouldn't even ask that question because you'd be a lala land.

If would be able to form coherent thought patterns I would have to simply say: Live life with no regrets.
tingkagol
i've basically "felt" what it's like after death before 1982. so if i died tomorrow, it would be like 1981- when i didn't give a rat's ass about anything.

and i'm ok with that.

Personally, I bleieve that once you're dead, you are gone from the world in every sense except for your physical being.

Well, we won't go into Zombies and Vampires, that's different.

True' I think that is right.... Rolling Eyes

Suppose there would be consciousness after death, in which we belong in neither heaven nor hell. Then perhaps there's oblivion. A place where only your memory lives on, perhaps even relive your memories, perhaps even relive your entire life, righting the wrongs, and seeing the outcome.

Whatever it is, if we are conscious after death, there would be plenty of regrets, I'm sure of that.

Personally it doesn't bother me, the only thing about death I care to bother about is the curiosity of it all, the questions... rather than speculating the answer I think the only way to get it is to kill yourself... not in a suicide way rather an exploration way... just to see whats there.. or what isn't even there....

i wonder if religious people assuming there was a conciousness aftewards would think stuff like, hmmm i wish i had done something else every sunday morning, or i wish i didnt stop 3 times a day to pray, or i wish that i had had sex with the love of my life before i found my wife,... stuff like that

What do you mean by it taking 3 days to ressurect? Are you referring to the 3 days it took for Jesus to free the dead and then come back to life before his ascension? I'm pretty sure we don't have that responsibility... at least according to my understanding of Christian faith. I would be more inclined to think that it's rather immediate that we end up before the Judge or in Heaven or Hell (possibly with a stop in Purgatory under the Catholic belief), or where ever the Destination is.

But to the OP, I agree with others that you'd regret it much more if it were the other way around and found out that your unbelieving life landed you in eternal suffering. I don't think there's anything regrettable about living according to religious morals. If nothing else, you leave a good name for yourself in the minds of those you made contact with in life.

No. All I can do is live my life by my beliefs. If I end up being wrong, I have lost nothing.
missdixy
I'd feel no regret at all. My God has helped me become a better person.

In the end if it dousnt exist it woudn't really matter because i think you can only decide for yourself if your are/where content with your life.
silvermesh
I think if it turned out that there was nothing after death, you wouldn't feel anything, because you'd be dead, and no longer in existence. Hard to say what death will be like without dying, and I don't plan on dying any time soon. too much stuff I got to get done first Very Happy
The-Nisk
What does it matter, you should still live your life now, be the best you can, change the world, have one hell of a trip through life!
Which would you rather "I'm going to die but I'm hoping I have an afterlife so I can live a better life then!"
or
"I don't care if there is an afterlife, I've shown this world all that i am, I have no regrets...I lived my life to the full! And if there is an afterlife for me, its gona be even better, if possible!".

I believe in afterlife, but even if I am wrong, I have no fear/regrets
I will live my life to the full.

I think it is as God has intended anyway (if he/she exists) isn't that why he prohibited us to approach the apple tree of knowledge?
He just wanted us to enjoy the time we had then and now, without any worries.

Why bother wondering about afterlife, if your life is happening right now?

Peace all Cool
sambhav
I think after death everything is over and so the best idea is to enjoy life, and live it the best way you can.
Jaan
How would you know?

It's all very interesting, but unless you're conducting valid research into it, there's no need to be worried about it.

Personally I believe in an afterlife, though not the christian version. But I also believe that the things that make life worth living are what makes this mortal existance bearable. For instance, many christians believe that denying themselves certain pleasures they will be more pure for the afterlife. I believe that this is false. That nature had a reason for designing us the way we are and that we shouldn't ignore that.

Now this isn't to say that one's pleasure should be another's pain, but, one should not deny the pleasures in life that we were designed to experience.

The buddha believed in the middle path (at least according to zen) to live in denial of your self and your body is not the way to enlightenment, to live in excess of your self and your body is not the way to enlightenment, it is through the middle path, or moderation, and contemplation that leads to enlightenment.

So when I die I see that all our religions has great errors on most parts.... Wish is easy to assume statistically. Isn't it time to upgrade our religions???
Ruzanna
i'm not scared of dying you see i learned something very smart in scool
dying is almost the same as being born you might not remember but u must ave been scared being born in your moms tummy just the way were scared to dye now and who knows maybe when you dye something good will happen like being born maybe there is life after death you just dont remember just the way you dont remember being born... can u see the similarity? well its kinde true i mean who knows maybe i was a cat before i was born or maybe a old lady nicknamed crazywoman its a possibility that no one knows about and wants to even think about
EanofAthenasPrime
When you die your mode of thought simply decays into purple haze then oblivion and you are reborn as a new entity. If the Bible is true, you wouldn't "resurrect in 3 days" you would be unconscious until the Day of Judgement and to you, being unconscious and dead, it would seem like no-time. I do not believe the simple minded atheistic view of death, as it is fundamentally impossible to experience consciousness, thus the idea that nothing happens after death is a logical fallacy, since it makes the assumption that you would experience "the absence of experience." I am an atheist by the way. So the goal of life is to make the universe a perfect place so that when you "respawn" you will always live a happy, perfect life.
missdixy
Better safe than sorry, i always say. Very Happy

Another idea from me:
You can actually create your afterlife as you like - if you wish to...

Hm let think this: If there is a change to experience the 'day of judgement' or what you call it... To see your life from everybody elses eyes - you would do it i guess??? If not why did you live a life?
Yantaal
i would love to watch me life through somone elses life, of course that would take, to date nearly 20 years to watch, assuming i never slept stopped watching. but thats an awesome idea. i bet i look like a dick.
