Dear the administrator of FRIHOST,
As the hackers & spammers are important issues of the IT security, especially when we want to develop a website/forum, some sort of discussion against the hackers (& spammers) maybe needed. Unfortunately, FriHost has no place for us to discuss this important issue. I suggest FriHost to open a new forum against Hackers and Spams. This will be a famous forum as the demand for it is increasing. Everyone a person open a topic on that (usually in the wrong forum, e.g. Design Tips) got a dozens of replies.

Very Happy Visitors

I would like this forum too. This is a hot, popular and important issue. Even the Frihost have set a "Report" icon to fight spams too! Smile

Might come a little too close to becoming a forum about how to spam, though.
Discussing the methods of hacking is prohibited by frihost rules, but many people do not read the rules, and would see a forum about hacking and spamming (the same people would be likely not to read the description either) as a place to do exactly what is against the rules.

Perhaps it could be implimented for a trial period to see if this would actually happen.
tidruG
I don't support this idea, and I highly doubt if it will even be implemented on a trial basis.

Any forum which has the word "hack" in the name or description will get a bunch of threads about how to hack... or will inadvertently give out information on how to hack.

It is for the same reason that we do not allow any discussions on bit torrents. While we have nothing against the technology, almost all threads on torrents end up having replies like "I use <insert illegal torrent site>!! It's the best! THey have everything!".
Bondings
As tidruG mentioned, a forum about hacking and torrents or inciting it, is not a good idea.

A forum about security and how to prevent scams and spamming (like spam bots on phpbb) could be a good idea, as long as people are interested in it.

I think thats too specific, I think it could fit in the Website Software forum

I think that this is a great idea - there's a lot to be said about how to avoid spam, both on websites and in email, and also designing secure code for internet sites. Of course there's some overlap, but Frihost is no stranger to a bit of mild overlap for the greater good.
starfish2007
well i think its a good idea and as far as arisks go just offering a place for people to write things is a risk so i do not see how thats even a argument agenst doing it

I am against this, Spam does not deserve its own forum, its just too small a topic, and who really wants to post about such a thing, I am even more strongly against the Hacking forum, there will be so many "Hows d00 1 4ackzoz" topics that we would need a very committed staff member to watch over it, as I hear the report system is a bit...well...silent.
Azmo
well flush the hack thingy.. name it "Computer safety" or something, and chose to say that it's where we discuss diferent OS, Mac vs PC, firewalls, antivirus etc..

It's all about safety, but if u put hack or spam in the description, we will for sure get spamns about how to hack..

"Only nabs google for "how to hack" and think they'll learn by reading a guide.."
ocalhoun
^That would be good. A bit of clever wording might just be what's needed;
"Saftey, Security, and Spam Prevention"
Something like that, except in a way that couldn't be contrued as the prevention of saftey, security, and spam.
Your 'I wanna be a haxor' types probably wouldn't even connect the concepts of coputer security and computer hacking.
Manofgames
Namepros have a similar forum or their site, though I would like to point out that quite a few of the topics populating their spam/hackers forum (They call it warnings and alerts) are about scams to do with other members, paypal ebay, or domains.

And lets be honest, not many people here use paypal or buy things online like the (adults) at np.

And there isnt really much to talk about hacking unless some 733t starts posting warez like max said.
Vrythramax
@ManofGames,

Frihost does post warnings about scams, potential email frauds, and the like...I have even posted a couple myself. You have to understand that Frihost is a business, and as such if people don't have a functioning computer....we have no traffic, so it is our best interest to warn users about potential threats. Wink

I also agree that this type of forum is wrong...many may see it as a place that provides information about hacking/warez, etc., or a place to find serials/cracks/keygens....which certainly would not be good for Frihost.
darvit
Yeah, I'm also against this idea.

Aside from what the other posters have mentioned, a forum for this would even inform the spammers about, say, popular methods of spam prevention, which, in turn, would inspire them to create new ways to spam and scam...

That would simply be a lot of information for everyone. Confused
Azmo
just to be mentioned.. let's say we actually do create this forum, after a couple of explanations on how to avoid attackts.. it's not that hard for some people to start figure out how you actually do to make the attack.. and frihost don't want to raise hackers or spamers.. right?

Cause the more u read about safety, the more info you get on how to break it down.. don't go there, it's fun getting in to someones computer, but it's alot less fun when the police knocks on your door and taking ur computer away..
Hogwarts
It wouldn't promote hacking...

Very few things would a person be able to do to exploit vulnerabilities.. They'd need to know more then that.

If a phpbb exploit comes out that makes peoples phpbb vulnerable, very few people would know how to use that to exploit installations.

If there was a phpbb exploit, and somebody here posted a fix for that (until the patch came out) then I'd be grateful.

It could also give people assistance in writing things such as contact and feedback forms so that they cannot be used maliciously to spam people...

Also, if somebodys site got hacked, people could actually try to help them figure out what made it vulnerable in the first place by posting suggestions.

Just my two cents - Tobias

Thats barely promoting, its fun to get stuff you shouldn't have, but as Azmo said, it is illegal, and immoral.
But back to the topic at hand, one thing no one is providing is why we need this, come on guys, you are good, but your not about to beat the PHPBB team in patching holes, they practically exist to do this.
And why on earth do people think spam prevention is a broad topic, it isn't, go to Tutorialized and pick up a guide, bingo, searching through topics for one helpful post terminated.

Nah, lets not kid ourselfs, this forum is worthless, and I sure hope we have staff committed enough to delete 'I wanna be a haxor' topics, because if not its gonna get nasty.

One forum about security is nesessary we dont have to loose control.

We could for example sugest IDS for windows and not put exploits or virus software.

Other forums they upload for free the entire package how to become a pro hacker.

We have the right to protect ourself i personaly downloaded a lot of packages and i am telling you your not in danger by our new forum becouse it depends of each one morality how to use his know how not from our litle forum that cant do any danger.

Espesialy if it is under control.....

Exactly.. so do we realy need to say more? What do we got.. 20k + registered members.. a few 1000 that's active, there is no way you count on everyones morality and not posting tips on hacking and stuff.. just check this forum.. it says clearly that we wont add any more language forums.. and how many posts a week about this? people don't read sticky, some do, but not all..

So, why don't discuss our antivirus and anti spams and every other protection in the Software part or somethin? cause it fits in there too.. and personaly, I got no problems keeping hackers and spammers out of my computer and forums etc.. and I don't use any specific software to do this.. some basic knowledge and you are rid of 90% of them (those who arn't pro).. stop using IE and hotmail and you've earned alot.. switch to Mac and you wont have any problems at all.. and most important.. hackers with some skills have no interest in your personal computer.. unless u got shitloads of money and people know about it..

and forums, well you get rid of the bots easy.. and spammers, well u can't rly prevent them if they register and then spam forums.. just ban their IP..

I mean, we can stick with software part, and we'll be just fine.. start posting ur stuff in there and people will follow you..
