If you could go back in time and take 1 car what would it be

Kev01234
If you could travel back in time, say to the era when cars were first being invented which car would you bring back?

I would bring back either a formula 1 racing car. Or a subaru WRX. I think the people of the past could model pretty good cars after forumula 1 cars and the WRX is pretty fast and its 4 wheel drive thing would be good for the people in the past to copy.

that would be 1969 ford mustang mach 1

Considering the condition of roads back then and the quality of fuel, I think I would be looking at pre-emissions law Wranglers or Land Rovers. Something that could get around outside of the larger cities.

I would (if i had to) take a dodge 318 or 360 dually.

Those trucks can pull anything

However, I would not show it to anyone, and if anyone saw it i would convince them it was steam powered or something (ethics of time-travel)

Now there's a bit of wisdom!
It would also be nice in that you'd be more likely to be able to repair broken parts (because getting factory parts would be impossible, and older vehicles have simpler parts.)

Personally, I'd go with a suped-up jeep wrangler, and have fun winning automobile races of every kind.

Even then, though, repairs and maintenence would be awful; After you've driven it for 5,000 miles, where are you going to find a new oil filter that will fit? Where will you find a replacement tire?

I could almost imagine kludging an oil filter that might work sort of. But that tire is going to be a problem. If I had the time I would photoshop a wranlger with iron bound wagon wheels, but you get the idea. Wink

Now that is really thinking ahead! I would take back enough spares and fuel to keep the car I take back running for about 10 years say and then it would be a....

Probably a Ferrari or a Porsche being they are fast and you could win all the races and make money but they are also cutting edge. Think of all the improvements in car technology there would be today if 100 years ago they had the latest Porsche or Ferrari!??!

Oh I would like to point out to the first guy that people 100 years ago probably wouldnt be able to model a car off an F1 car or re-create the WRXs AWD system because they simply didnt have the materials and technology required to do that back then.

One of the two 1969 ZL1 Corvettes produced (preferably the orange one, the other was painted yellow).
Next choice would one of the three hundred 1953 Corvettes. We could use a second in the museum.

Yeah that's exactly why you take it back. So they don't have to spend the next 50 years working out that have all wheels driven is a good thing then having to spend the time developing it. They see it straight away.

The materials like carbon fibre composites are certainly way ahead of the times 100 years ago but think of it as they are being exposed to things from the future that cars will be made of. Skip all the intermediate technologies. It's called evolution. Razz

You're given the chance to go back in time.. and you choose to hit up 1992 and bring back one of these?

..are you serious?

I have a Landrover in the present but I think I would like to take back a Hummer, and a trailer of spares, tyres etc

^That gives me an idea...
Bring back a modern tank, choose which government to let study its design, let that government take over the world. Not necessarily a good idea, but it would be interesting.
