I am experimenting with Linux fedore core 5 which comes with php5, I would like to downgrade this to php4.

does anyone have any tips or guidlines with regard to this.

I guess I have tow paths to compile the rpm src using the Gcc compiler that comes with my distro or to download and install precompiled binaries but are there any tips you might have thing I should setup of check for after installidion or mybe a method I should follow

Find if there is a php4 rpm package for Fedora Core 5 on Redhat. If it exists, install it with rpm or yum utils. Otherwise, you should build the package your self. Download php4-src-xxx.rpm from redhat and use rpm-build command to build your own package. This need some develop tool kits like gcc, autoconf etc be installed.
