In browsers, when you see the logo of a website, how is that created. For example frihost has a blue F. Is it something in the html script of the page or is it an issue with something else? Im not really sure but i want my site to have a logo so can someone help me out with this??? Thanks Very Happy

It's a favicon
Ranfaroth
An image linked to the page with a <link /> element...
reactive
More exactly:
Choose your favicon picture, go here http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/
Between <head> & </head> insert
Code:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://path/to/your/favicon.ico" />
<link rel="icon" href="http://path/to/your/favicon.ico" />

And you're done Smile

You don't need to link 2 times... Rolling Eyes
And you forgot the type...

type? I believe you have no need of that.

You need a way to inform the browser about what type of file it's going to download. For instance, if it doesn't support the file type, it won't spend time downloading it.

The attribute used for that is type, and is strongly recommended..

okay, so what would the code look like to include the type?

Thanks!

It makes your site look professional, I use it too. It's a real nice detail for a site.

Here the link: http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

For instance

This page said just putting the file there would make it show up, no link needed. Has anybody tried that?

How could the browser guess that there is a file ? How could it guess where to retrieve it ?

In my previous attempts at creating a favicon, this is what I heard, too. Whatever documentation I was reading said that the browser automatically looks for "favicon.ico" in your root directory. However, when I tried it, it never worked for me in all browsers. I think it worked in Firefox, but not in Safari or Internet Explorer.

I'll try the code above. I assume you have to put that on every page?
