Mail server not responding!

I have tried to set up Outlook and Opera to work with my frihost email account and i am getting the same error message for both programs. It said that it was able to find the server but there was no response. Is this a problem with my computer or is it a more wide spread problem? I have seen other posts but they don't have any answers. Is there a problem with the mail server? or is it just with my computer..? I have also seen some posts about there being an issue with the service providers. I don't see how this can affect communication with the server, because like i said before it found the server, it is just not able to get a response. Can someone help me out with this issue?
