I was wondering if anyone knew about any free paint programs out there? Anything that I can make signatures with? I don't really want to spend all that money on CS2 or something like that. Can someone put something down if they know one?
Any Free Paint Programs Out There?
Pixia is cool program that's free
try um, painter x
www.gimp.com gimp is a basicly like photoshop but is free.
photoshop i the best but it is not free but the best in freebies is gimp im making sigs in photoshop and then im edit it in gimp gimp is realy cool
Gimp is free and is used professionally. It does paint and image edting quite well. Someone mentioned Painter, it is not free but it does mimic 'natural' paint media like watercolor and paintbrushes quite well.
On the PC side 'Project Dogwaffle' has a free version that is similar in capabilities to Painter.

Highly recommend GIMP, it's very good and it's open source!
photoplus is a fair alright program, id still prefer photoshop though
I use GIMP already. I just wasn't sure if there were any other good programs out there.
I recommend, along with GIMP, Paint.NET. It has many different effects and tools, as well as layering. There are also many great plugins available, including one that lets you open/save as PSD (photoshop).
GIMP is the next best thing.........other than that......nothing......photopshop is all in one,,,,,, you just have to get use to it,,,to get all the effects, image restoration.....you want
google Paint.NEt its free, all the features as Photoshop CS2 but with some changes and its a microsoft program. i used it before i got Photoshop
PhotoFiltre isn't too bad either.
Personaly i think GIMP is the best out there. You can't get any better then that. That is unless you want to shell out some money.
I only recommend a program like gimp if you plan to make smaller scale projects primarily. Like forum signatures. Photoshop is a better medium if you want to do larger scale images, and is equal if not better than gimp in every way.
if you have a friend who has it, ask them to burn it to a cd for you or something.

Microsoft Paint is about the best program on the open market. There are no bugs or patches needed and it's been the industry-standard for at least a decade. I highly recommend it. Especially brush size "medium".
and if You like Photoshop interface You may try GIMPShop - it's modified GIMP.
It's a nice distribution ... i used it a while ... and what is most important - it's 100% free

I will repeat the "Project Dogwaffle" recommendation. It is somewhat different than Gimp or PS in that its designed to mimic natural media like Painter. It has a slightly odd interface, but it is pretty smooth once you get used to it. Version 1.2 is free and you can even set up animations with it.

I Like iDraw Chara Maker.
Software to create Charakters, but good!
set grid size, paint colors...
don't allow high resolution pictures.
undoubtably gimp is the next best thing to photoshop as said before it is open source and made by the same group as linux. but before I had photoshop cs2 i used saint paint which was free when i used it. It is usfull for animations and cartoons but for realistic graphics saint paint is not for you.
Go to www.gimp.org. If you can't download GIMP, go to plasticbug.com and download gimpshop. It is GIMP in a photoshop format!! It's awesome. You HAVE to get it!!! Seriouly, it is exactly like Photohop.

you DO know, of course, there's an extension for it? pain.NET. www.getpaint.net for all the info. It's in my opinion a lot better than paint(like that's hard to accomplish), but not as good as GIMP, of course. It all depends on what you're doing, really. If you're looking for a program to trace and color line art, paint.net sure does the trick.
In my personal opinion, MSPaint is the worst program you could use. IF you want to do anything, get GIMP because it can do everything paint can. I have made over 250+ highly deatailed images in GIMP and I can't even make a decent stick figure in paint because it is such a porrly programed program. Just stay away from paint because GIMP or GIMPShop can do all the things paint can and more. Plus GIMPShop (www.plasticbug.com) is layed out like PhotoShop!
Inkscape is a very good program which can be used along side the Gimp and Blender quite nicely.
Inkscape has been used in a few commercial movies such as Elephants Dream.

The GIMP... photoshop substitute.

Yes, we've already covered that Jaan.
All the software used in "Elephants Dream" is of very high standard (and all freeware). Go google it.

I tried that, but it was really slow and buggy. I tried GIMP, but i have no idea how to work it. So I use Photoshop CS3, it is a lot better in terms of system resources than CS2

I also use Gimp. Highly recommend it, but if you have money, Just buy photoshop, It's the best. GIMP is better though.
Gimp and Paint.NET are really good free paint programs. Since I use linux, I use GIMP, and I've fallen in love with it.
