Sikhism a new bible for modern man?

silkmesh
I have as one forum user only debated about Middle Eastern Religion. I had limited my research to the main western religions for my book. I made a suggestion within my book that there could be a need for a new bible to suite the requirements of modern man and scientific understanding.

It would seem that there is already a copyright on that idea and a bible and a religion that maybe acceptable and it was wrote and started 500 years ago.

Sikhism

Philosophy and Beliefs

Quote:
There is only One God. He is the same God for all people of all religions.
The soul goes through cycles of births and deaths before it reaches the human form. The goal of our life is to lead an exemplary existence so that one may merge with God. Sikhs should remember God at all times and practice living a virtuous and truthful life while maintaining a balance between their spiritual obligations and temporal obligations.
The true path to achieving salvation and merging with God does not require renunciation of the world or celibacy, but living the life of a householder, earning a honest living and avoiding worldly temptations and sins.
Sikhism condemns blind rituals such as fasting, visiting places of pilgrimage, superstitions, worship of the dead, idol worship etc.
Sikhism preaches that people of different races, religions, or sex are all equal in the eyes of God. It teaches the full equality of men and women. Women can participate in any religious function or perform any Sikh ceremony or lead the congregation in prayer.
The founder of the Sikh religion was Guru Nanak who was born in 1469. He preached a message of love and understanding and criticized the blind rituals of the Hindus and Muslims. Guru Nanak passed on his enlightened leadership of this new religion to nine successive Gurus. The final living Guru, Guru Gobind Singh died in 1708.
Maybe just maybe as a Weak Atheist with a Pantheist view I am really a closeted Sikh?

You know, there are less annoying ways to go about finding a religion Very Happy ...I mean, it's great to see you looking for something, but don't use the forum as your sounding board. In other words, jump off the net, and start asking questions at your local churches, temples, etc...

Be aware that Sikhism also has its flaws, mostly in that people have very specific ways in which they must act and dress. It's a great religion, but hasn't been without its share of violence and oppression.

Whats up, with you! Keep Cool

I am very interested in this subject like all others I have posted and I cant see any rule that I can not start a new discussion on anything that concerns religion and If thats not your opinion is unwanted.

Not all sikhs nowdays wear the head dress, one of my sikh friends of whom I met in Shezhen has a crew cut and wears ordinary clothes though he is a devout follower.

Sikhism has had its problems concerning conflicts with other religions but never has been in more conflicts than Christianity, Islam and most other religions including those that have caused conflict against the Sikh's. Its certainly got good rules to live by.

Its okay I will look at the two religions you have been pushing at late. Both that I have some understandings of and have met members and talked at great length to.

Every religion and belief has its problems even non religions such as Atheisism. But Sikhism seems to be at least taking the right approach and seems pretty sensible.

Best regards, have a nice day

Dude: Not trying to push a religion or say that you need to limit what you post. It's just that choosing a religion is something that should be a personal thing, and all we can do is to give you a lot of info to look at, but there are a lot of questions that we can't begin to answer.

On the other hand, a real-live person can answer any question that you have, as well as look stuff up. As they can see your face and other cues, they can better tailor the conversation to fit your needs.

In other words, in order to better serve the idea of free will, I'm suggesting that you look at talking to someone, regardless of that person's religion, but do so in real-life rather than these forum topics, where we can only give extremely general information...

Ok

To be serious we are on a forum talking about religion, we come here to ask questions and to learn answers, there is no problem posting information about religions or beliefs that others maybe interested in or want to talk about. To give a broader vision on religion as a whole.

Thanks

Best Regards
