Loading two OS

daemon
1. create a boot partition C, 256mb will fit (you only need it to have the boot files on a seperate partition, that can be very helpfull in the future) as a primery partition with FAT32.
2. create a logic partition D for windows 98 with FAT32
3. install windows 98 into this D partiton. windows 98 will place its boot files on the boot partiton and over these files it will boot into the D partion with the 98 system itself.
4. install windows xp onto another logic partition with NTFS. windows xp sees 98 and takes it into his own boot manager and sets all things for you automaticly.
5. hide the windows 98 partiton in windows xp, just give it no drive letter.

thats all - youre done.

hints: use a partiton tool like disk director or partion magic to easy create the partitons... (but fdisk from 98 works also for step 1.+2., for step 4. you can use xp)
don't forget to hide the 98 partition in windows xp, it's possible that some bad programmed installations will cause strange effectes because of the 2 systems. win98 can't see the winxp partition because of the ntfs file system who is far better than FAT32 and can not be read from win98.
a good thing is to create another logical partition with FAT32 to swap files between the 2 systems.
and last but not least take an image of the 3 partitons. if something goes bad u can easy restore it. true image or ghost is a good choice for imageing a drive.

special hint: when you have an actual image of the boot partition C, you can easy reinstall one of the 2 systems without problems... just install the system you want to renew and then restore the boot partition out of your image...

if there are still questions just feel free to ask..

cheers
