Any Siberian Husky Owners/Lovers?!

wolf_wonders
I want to know how many people own Huskies, would like to own a Siberian Husky(but can't for whatever reason of their own) or plan to own a Husky.

I, myself, own 2. A male, gray and white with 1 brown eye and 1 blue eye, named Summit (babyname Summy) that is 11 years old. I also have a female, black and white Siberian Husky with 2 brown eyes named Madison (everyone calls her Mady) that is turning 3 soon.

I also plan to have a red Husky one day, when I live by myself and I plan to own a Husky with 2 blue eyes, I don't care about what color. I love Huskies with blue eyes and I love red and black Huskies.

I love Siberian Huskies because they remind me of wolves. Wolves are my favorite animals (like you couldn't tell from my name...lol)!

Anyways, if you own a Husky post HERE. If you plan to own a Husky post HERE. And if you want a Husky post HERE! Razz

Thanks, she was my lazy dog...Fetching a ball was too much work for her.. lol and she would never go out in the rain to get her nails messy. Dog was high maintenced like me ;o) She was spoiled rotten. Loved her walks thou. HAHA Most I miss about her. she use to stomp her nails on the floor to get her bones. like the attitude *I want it now* haha

If I ever get another one it will be pure white or red this time.
wolf_wonders
Yeah, I want a red husky too. Summit doesn't like fetching balls either. My dogs both hate the rain too, but they love the snow! lol! And they love walks!

Aww, they are so beautiful.

When beeing a little girl I used have this wonderful friend named Tussi, I don't remember much of her anymore, other than some glims.
I have always loved huskeys, could have something with what I just mentioned, and one day I will have one of my own.

My parents used to own a husky. Dumbest smart dog I ever knew. We had a little run that we would put her in when she went out. For a long time we just used a rope to tie the gate shut. Nicky would sit there and worry that knot until she untied it and then would run off and make us chase her for hours. My date finally found a latch she couldn't open and then she started to dig under the fence until she could escape....Untying those knots and opening the first few latches was pretty smart, so why the "dumb" comment? Well, the fence was only about 4 feet high and I had seen her jump out of a 4 foot high igloo without even trying! She could have escaped anytime she wanted to Laughing

We weren't really a dog family, so we were pretty clueless about how to train dogs. When I came home for break once, I easily taught her to sit, lay and roll over. Took about half an hour. Like I said, she was a smart dog. When I came home 3 months later, I told her to sit. She immediately sat, laid down and rolled over! Seems my sisters always had her do all three tricks in a row and she just figured "why wait".

I also decided to train her to "attack". I'd wrap a towel around my arm and get her to stay until I yelled attack, at which point she would lunge and start tearing at my arm. She learned that real fast also. But, as you may have guessed, she only "attacked" me and only if I had a towel on my arm. Laughing

She was a great dog. And thinking back on it, I think maybe she was just a smart dog stuck with dumb people. Wink

Lol, I remember my husky opening our gate then went next door open thier gate, ate thier dog or cat food then came back into her yard. ha ha I thought it was so cute.

Remember the movie "The Birds" , My husky killed a black bird then all of a sudden she was like surrounded in black birds, guess they wanted thier young back but had to go out there with a broom to shoo them away.

Mine was dumb, stupid and smart as well...You make me miss her.

i think huskies are very beautiful dogs. But over here, the only time i can actually meet one live is in a vet or a pet mall. I don't remember seeing any on the streets so far. I had a goog closeup experience in a vet one day. It was resting in the ecovery room n i was able to view and tounch it Smile

I'm thinking of getting a Husky for my next dog. There's a Siberian Husky rescue centre near me so I think I'd probably get one from there.

I've got a Pommeranian which is a minature Husky. She's trained to be my disability assistance dog and if I get a Husky it'll also be an assistance dog. I just love Huskies.[/img]

My Lly is a Husky Shepherd cross.
She's so smart. Almost too smart. She's figured out how to open the gate to her run by jumping on the door with just the right rhythtm to work the latch loose. And she can open the lid on her dog food... but she's dumb too, because she won't actually eat the dog food without permission!
The Husky in her is hard to contend with sometimes though; she likes to RUN.
We take her out n a backroad every week and let her run by the truck... she won't rununless we're with her, and we can't run fast enough to keep up. She'll do 40km/h for as long as we let her! If we don't get her out every week she'll bolt on us. Walking just isn't satisfying for her. (If anyine has any pointers to train her out of this, let me know!)
Yep, she's beautiful and I love her to bits.

My mother wants one really badly, but she is alergic Razz And really much. I would like one to, but not yet, maybe when I turn 30 or something like that. They are some really pretty dogs. But sadly, not my favourite. But if I would buy one it would be on top of my list
Rico
They're pretty. I have a policy not to buy animals. Animals who need homes usually find me by themselves. The chances of me ever finding a husky stray is minimal and also i've reached the legal limit of cats & dogs for where I stay.

I agree with you about having a rescue animal. You could always find a husky rescue centre. There's one only about 12 miles from me so when I'm getting ready for another dog I shall get in touch with them You can even get puppies from specialist resuce centres, if you don't mind waiting until either they get some in or have a pregnant one handed in.

There's one thing that worries me about getting a husky, and that can I give it enough excersise. Can someone who has one tell me know how much they need?

I agree, wholeheartedly! Also, check in with your local veterinarians. If they know that you're a good pet owner and are in the market, they may give you a call if something comes up. that's how my Lily came to me. I've had a steady supply of beautiful, healthy animals that way!

Well, I;m no expert, but my experience says that they ned more exercise than you can possibly give them. I nt he summer we take Lily out to run alongside the truck - she'll run at an average of 35km/h for at least 40 min. And isn't even tired afterwards!
in spite of having plenty of room to run, lots to do, and a few walks daily, she's bored and underexercised.
I've decided that there's jus no sh thing as "enough" exercise for a husky!

Hey I am Bill, four years ago my husky whose name was buddy, husky lab mix, lived to fourteen years old. Buddy was my first husky and we learned alot, Him and I. Cathy, my wife rescued a sibe just over two years old and turned three june 30, 2010. Max is husky/malamute mix, black and white with a tint of red with yellowish brown eyes, more stubborn, talks to much, and keeps me off the couch. Summertime, early morning or sunset we walk,or we walk nice green grass or lots of paths with trees, and a secret pond to cool off in. Personally I think there are too many breeders in only for the money, some people may be good to own huskys, but what about the ones who just tie them out and forget them. One husky is equall to two four year old children.I love my Sibe, and will probably get a third in the future.IF YOUR NEW WITH A HUSKY, DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP! The number two killer of a husky is trust off the leash, the number one killer of a husky is an uneducated or inexperienced person or people who (like pretty dogs) good luck with the BEST friend you will ever have. Cool
