Last week I got to drive my 2002 Chevy Cavalier sedan for the first time. It's an economy car, but it looks great, has good gas mileage, and easy controls. It's simple to use and maintain, which I really like. oo bad I had to leave it at home. I'll see it when I get back from school in May...

Next year I'll bring it up with me though, good stuff.

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima. A pretty metallic blue

a 1995 Chevy Corisica - white and needing some work

a 1974 Pontiac GrandVille Convertible with the original 455 engine. Needs work and is also FOR SALE!

we also have two 1950? five window trucks FOR SALE. I have no idea really what they are.

I had to give up my 1977 Chevy Stepside pickup that I will never see again, my 1952 "Doc" Hudson Hornet, my 2000 Chevy Cavilier with a beautiful metallic green paint that I LOVED and my 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster in order to pursue happiness - it turned out all wrong though. Oh well, live and learn, right?

I love to find old cars and trucks and fix them up and restore them or getting the newer ones and totally trickin' them out.

My next project I am hoping will be my 2007 VW BEETLE! I love this car. Someday......

I have pictures if you want to see any of them.

My own personal car that I drive daily is a 2007 Mazda SPEEDSIX. It's an all-wheel drive, turbo powered engine, and I love it. I was thinking about getting an Evo 8, but the Mazda has pretty much everything the Evo has at a cheaper price. I've been trying to get some races in where I live but no one will test me Sad . I also have a 2005 Ford F-150, which gets everyday use for taking stuff somewhere and for me to look big (ger) in, lol. My last car is a 2005 Infiniti G35, that's my baby right there. I got a Nissan Silvia S14 K with stock turbo with aftermarket exhaust kit installed before I got it. Not sure how much power it has, but I've been told it puts out about 220hp, enough to keep up with my cousins 180sx turbo anyway.

If i had enough money I'd upgrade the turbo and suspension.. although it takes corners pretty well for now.. ;> soon!! when i get more money

At the moment it's wearing a mix of kits. The front bumper is a veilside and the sides = cwest kit. Costed about 500 bucks each. Still looking for a rear bumper. clutch has been changed to heavy duty, although still not use to it being so hard and all, it's ****** bad ass to thrash. The shoes it's wearing are just some 17" volkracing ones which i took out from my mates old car. It's pretty shit cause the paints stripping off.. but in time!!! it'll have a new pair of shoes and it'll be riding dirty Very Happy

that's me.

2000 Mazda 626 LX V6. I have some work done to it, pushing just over 200 hp as of now, but will be putting 2 T3 turbos or a Holsett HY35 turbo on it very soon and try to push around 400 to 450 hp. I will have to change to forged internals, but that won't bother me. It's nice to have a full on sleeper. 4 door family car, that will hopefully soon be able to take down corvettes. Twisted Evil That's what I want. I have to buy my RX-8 first though. So the 626 will be down over next summer so that I don't have to worry about driving rear wheel drive in the winter.

In the end of July I'm getting a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup. For fuel economy, it's only rear drive and manual transmission, which I can't wait to learn. We went to look at it, and it's in beautiful condition, and only 30,000 miles. The previous owner was painstaking. He actually had this little notepad where he kept track of every single time he had refueled since he bought the truck, with how much he paid and how long it lasted. The truck gets carlike fuel economy. And for $5900, it's an amazing bargain. The guy's moving to the UK, so it's a must-sell.

European sport cars? Those I could see bragging rights in, but realistically the only bragworthy part of owning one of those squirrel-powered types is that they get AWESOME gas mileage.

I should know; I learned to drive in an '06 hyundai accent. Neat little car, but pretty gutless.

MY ride makes druggies, drunks, and chronic speeders mess themselves when I come up the highway.
I'll post some pix later, but to give you an idea:

Retired 1995 Police Interceptor Ford Crown Victoria - v8 under the hood with a slightly raised suspension. It's forest green and still has the stock spotline on it and some after-market pushbars.
If I go to the right gas station, my girl purrrs like a kitten, roars like a tiger, and takes off like a cheetah. She's totally sleek and just a thrill to open up and drive.

On icy roads, though, she's a sled so... yeah.
Before her I drove my moms Ford Crown Vic LS, circa 1999.

Currently I am looking at a coworkers 1992 Ford T-bird in an effort to save what little gas money I can. XD

Due to an expanding family, I've recently changed from a 1996 Vauxhall (read opel for people outside of the uk) Vectra 1.8 LS to a seven seat 1999 Ford Galaxy 1.9 Zetec. Its done 145000 miles so its been around a bit.
Reading the paperwork that came with it, it was originally a hire car, which explains the high mileage.
Apart from a new clutch, its been pretty good so far. The air con doesn't work, but thats next on the list. The airflow through the air vents is negligible unless the blower is on (a very noisy) full. Not good when a 3 year old is travel sick unless she has lots of fresh air.
Great motorway cruiser, and as a 1.9 turbo diesel with 115bhp, its reasonably frugal for a geunine seven seter people carrier.
Parking can be a problem with all 7 seats in (with the backs up) as you are essentially blind to anything below 3 feet.
Would I recommend one? Yes! A wartime Landrover has better aircon, but there is little else to complain about for a vehicle of this type really.

I notice that American people don't mention how well their car corners. We in Europe have roads that are other than straight lines. High powered American metal becomes useless because they don't go around bends. Our fuel is also more than double the price of US residents. Would I like the power of a V8? Of course I would, just put it in something with decent suspension and chassis that doesn't weigh as much as the US national debt!

Ah.........the Vauxhall VXR8. Leaves the Yank crap for dead and goes around corners........

See ya in my mirror!
Gagnar The Unruly
Of course, statements about American cars not cornering well were only true 30 or 40 years ago. Modern American cars span a range of typical and extreme handling performance, when it comes to turn-in and absolute grip.

I admit that cars in general, particularly new cars, are too large, and I'm not a big fan of gas guzzlers like the ones that are coming from the Chrysler group. However, I would also point out that some of the most bloated cars being made right now are German. Volkswagons, Mercedes, and Audis are all porkers.
Polynomial
I've currently got an 03 VW Jetta to tote my mountain bike around with, grocery getter, and to take my doggie to the local parks.
I then have an 03 Nissan 350z that I more recently picked up after trading in my 07 WRX.
The 350z is the Touring edition model and I've so far added an AccessPort engine management system, Skunk2 racing lowering springs, Garmin Nuvi GPS mounted in the cubby, Pioneer head unit with Sirius radio, an aluminum billet front grille, and a pair of fiberglass eyelids. I hope to get a catback on it shortly and CAI.... then lastly a set of AXIS Shine wheels and then I'll try to relax a bit. Smile

Hmmm...An Audi TT is a porker? A VW golf too? And only new cars are too large? All you have to do is watch 70s cop show to see LARGE cars! One New York Taxi is about 5 Minis! Lol!
Gagnar The Unruly
Here are some figures for you:

2009 Audi TT Quattro Roadster 3.2: 3494 lb (1585 kg)
2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP: 2976 lb (1350 kg)
2008 Honda S2000: 2864 lb (1299 kg)

2008 Volkswagon GTI: 3162 lb (1434 kg)
2008 Volkswagon R32 (AWD): 3547 lb (1609 kg)
2008 Honda Civic Si: 2945 lb (1336 kg)
2008 Subaru Impreza WRX (AWD): 3142 lb (1425 kg)
2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbocharged: 2975 lb (1349 kg)

The Audi TT is 500 lb more than American and Japanese competitors. The GTI is 200 lb heavier than American and Japanese competitors, although it is comparable in weight to the AWD Impreza WRX. The AWD-equipped R32, however, is 400 lb heavier than the WRX.

Incidentally, you seem to be a fan of the Vauxhall VXR8. You're certainly aware that the Vauxhall is made by GM, and that it has an equivalent car in the States called the Pontiac G8 (sedan) and Chevrolet Camaro (coupe variant). It is built on the Australian-designed GM Zeta chassis in the tradition of American musclecars. The VXR8 weighs two full tons (1812 kg), comparable to the largest of current American musclecars (Charger - 1886 kg, Challenger - 1878 kg, Camaro - 1812 kg, Shelby GT500 - 1778 kg) and has similar straight-line and cornering performance. The Zeta chassis has its heritage in the GM V platform (Opel/Vauxhall Monza, Senator, Chevy Caprice, and new model Pontiac GTO) and W platform (Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass Supreme, Chevy Monte Carlo, Chevy Impala). Note that American cop cars of the '70s were primarily Impalas, or the direct competitors of Impalas (and Monte Carlos), the Ford Crown Victorias. The Vauxhall VXR8 is a direct descendant of these cars, and actually weighs virtually the same (they tipped the scales at or under about 1800 kg). In other words, the Vauxhall VXR8 is "yank crap" and is the grandson of the cars you saw plowing around corners in old cop shows.
rockstar
OK. Point taken. (in places anyway).

I wouldn't agree that a Shelby has similar cornering abilities to VXR8, having driven both. Engine wise they both pull like a train, in a way that no European or Jap car does. Its also great having a manual box to put all that power on to the Tarmac. The 'Stang doesn't do corners tho. The VXR8 does. Maybe they have tuned the suspension to our local conditions, I dunno.
I couldn't afford to buy (or run) either, but I know which I would have.

When I was a kid, my friends dad had an Olds Cutlass. We were amazed by the size of it. The rest of our parents were running around in Morris Marinas, Morris Minors, Hillman Imps and Triumph Heralds. We had never seen electric windows, an 8 track and even a buzzer when you didn't wear your (retractable! WOW!) seatbelt. A Harry Moss car radio was a luxury to us! Due to the 70s fuel shortages, he didn't keep it long and replaced it with a 3L Ford Granada which was equally thirsty!! DOH!
Gagnar The Unruly
I agree about the Mustang. I don't really see live axles having a role in cars made in the 21st century, but I can sort of see why some purists wanted to keep the 'Stang from going with an independent setup. The huge iron block truck motor in the front of the Shelby doesn't help handling issues either, or so I hear.

The reason the Vauxhall handles so well is because it's got a well-tuned independent suspension with wide tires. I think that computer-aided suspension design techniques are helping automakers get around the handling tradeoffs that come with such large cars, provided they have independent suspensions. I suspect that if you ever had a chance to ride in a new Challenger SRT8 or G8 GT, you'd find them to be way more like the Vauxhall than the Shelby, but I don't know because I've never driven any of them!

It is true, though, that Americans like a little more suspension travel than Europeans do. I'm not sure if it applies to these cars, but I know that a lot of American suspensions are slightly softened on purpose. I think it's because the older people who tend to buy them were alive in a time when the ultimate experience in an American car was a smooth ride. All the old Cadillacs and Lincolns were tuned to have really fluid rides, provided they never had to corner hard. I think they feel more comfortable in cars that are more softly sprung. It's frustrating for performance enthusiasts, because even youth-oriented cars like the GTI can have their suspensions de-tuned somewhat for our markets. It's really hurt Ford. The American Focus is a shadow of the one available overseas.

I've never been a big fan of American cars, actually, but they are getting better. Cars like the Nissan/Datsun 240Z redefined what a sports car meant for many Americans. I think the invasion of the Asian tuner car culture into the West coast changed things too. American musclecars have gotten expensive, too. Customers are cross-shopping Cadillacs, and to some extent Dodges Pontiacs, with BMW, Audi and Mercedes. It's forcing American manufacturers to stay in the game and improve their products. In the past decade or so, American cars have improved a lot.

My roommate had an old '83 Cutlass Brougham with a crate 350, an Edelbrock carb and a Flowmaster exhaust. That car was ridiculous. It was loud and slow relative to my GS-R (well, the GS-R was at least as loud), but it was a lot of fun. Big V8 + live axle + leaf springs = big, loud, lazy powerslides. His dad had a Corvette, and that has always ranked up among my top dream cars.

There is a big culture shock when you go across the Atlantic. Cars in general are much smaller in Europe. I wish it was that way here in the 'States. Change is coming, I think. But we'll still have our big old V8 cars for the weekends Twisted Evil

As an interesting note, Dodge and Chevolet are now being pushed heavily here in the UK. These cars are not all US sourced. The Chevrolet branded stuff is built in the old Daewoo factory in the far east. Its cheap and cheerful, but there not much else going for it really. The 4 Dodge models are interesting and different (Journey, Caliber, Avenger and Nitro) but there don't seem to be many on the road. There are also a couple of Chrysler models (Neon and Crossfire) which seem to have done slightly better.
Many decades ago, Ford decided to make cars in Europe for the local market. They have been the market leader in almost every market sector ever since. They have been very successful in slipping in a few American models (Mondeo) and less sucessful with others (Probe).
Of course GM have done this too, with the Vauxhall and Opel ranges. These have also been successful, but the odd US model they outsource has been a disaster Vauxhall Sintra (Pontiac Montana with an Opel engine).
The world is going through some interesting times, financially, at the moment. It will be interesting how all this mixing and matching will pan out. Rumours have it that the mighty may fall......

I don't have a car, just 2 Lambrettas.
I find getting to work & back takes long enough on these (about 35 miles round trip)....but as I pass hundreds of standing cars, waiting as they edge in and out of the cities I go through, I can't help feel lucky I chose 2 wheels over 4.
My wife has a car, which I borrow when need be, but I much prefer the freedom the 2 wheels give me.

Soon, to park next to my dirty and dented 1993 holden commodore, I will be getting a 1980 Valiant Regal. Origonally 318/auto, the current owner only wants the v8 out of it, but is willing to supply a 245 hemi straight six (actually not a true hemi, but polyspherical) just to get it back on the road. I will need to weld in a few rust patches, fit a new windscreen and rebuild the brakes but aside from that its pretty tidy. Has a limited slip diff too.

In the future I will try and track down a 360 v8 for it, but for now I am focusing on making it mine then getting it back on the road.

I have the best American car ever invented, and even though it was made in Ireland with parts from Germany, it is the best American car because it was invented by an America for America and by golly, the wheel is on the right.

That's correct folks, I own and drive a 1982 DeLorean DMC-12. I'm telling ya, everyone should get one, because they are AWESOME.

I saw the aftermath of an accident involving a DeLorean and a lamp post. The lampost was one of those massive (guessing steel) ones that light main junctions. The lamp post was actually broken in half! I couldn't see even a dent on the DeLorean! Amazing!

i too have a 2001 Ford Exporer Sport Trac...and less than 90k miles...it is really in great condition still...i love it...

Newest addition...97 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab. 350 Vortec engine, just rolled over 100K miles about a month ago. Had 2 new/used front tires put on today after I walked out this morning to a flat and it was beyond repair, other side was not the best either so replaced it too. Embarassed This truck is probably the best investment I've made. Still needs a little work but its dependable and in great condition.

Before that...first it was an 89 Ford Bronco II...built like a tank but pushing 300K miles it was a daily fixer. Then an 89 F-150 with only 75K miles that barely lasted 6 months before the head gasket blew. Both the Fords had bodies that were almost perfectly preserved. Just that engines didn't hold up. !990 Pontiac Grand Am with 203,000 plus miles on it, still runs good and I keep it up, and safe.

I also have a 1979 Chevy 3/4 ton pick up that I converted from drum brakes to disc in the rear so now it has 4 wheel disc brakes, just got the parts so sometime in the next month I plan on lifting it 2 inches, with new shackles springs and shocks. One day little by little I hope to have the truck restored and convert it to run on gaseous fuels.

My favorite car that I have owned was a 2002 BMW 330Ci with a Dinan upgrade package. For those who are not familiar with BMW and their upgrade options, Dinan is the equivalent to AMG for Mercedes. This was was amazing! Silver with Black leather interior. It was just sick with speed. It wasn't the fastest off the line but it had such power at cruising speeds (50+mph).

This one night was I was driving home late on the highway and this punk kid in his ghetto blaster honda civic rolled up next to me while I was going about 75. He was reving his engine at me, flashing his lights. Trying egg me on! I responded with a flash of my lights and off he went. I stayed right with up to to 105 at which point a actually stepped on the accelerator! The car just loved that stuff! It roared to 125 without flinching. While this isn't all that impressive compared to more serious race cars, it definitely put that kid in his place.

If only I could have that car back!!!!
