Cornea Shaping Lenses

tiel_99
Hi,

I've just met two teens I've known since they were young. They always had these thick spectacles on, and when I recently met them, they weren't wearing them, so I naturally asked if they were using contact lenses.

They said that only wear them to sleep and take them off during the day.

Apparently these are hard lenses which alter the shape of their corneas as they sleep. When they wake, they will have perfecet vision as their corneas would have been altered in shape. This will last for a day and then at night their vision will revert to normal again - until they use the lenses again.

This is the first time I've heard of such a thing. Anyone else heard of this before?

I have never heard of this.

But I wonder: what is the advantage of wearing your lenses at night and not during the day over wearing them during the day and not a night? Or did normal lenses not work for them?
