Snowboarding anthills

Has anyone here ever lived somewhere where the snowboarding (or skiing) is amazing and then moved to a place where it's terrible? I'm having trouble transitioning. I moved from Whistler,BC to Ontario where the longest run takes about 15 seconds. Last year I put 85 days on my season pass and this year I've been out once. I don't know how to cope. It seems like I might just have to either ride only once or twice a year when I go on trips or become a park rat.

you think that is bad? you should try coming to australia! the "snow" is crappy almost the entire season, the lift passes are stupidly expensive and you have to drive 1000 metres up the hill before you even see the white stuff!

oh yeah, also it is a 6 hour drive from sydney, meaning you don;t do it often!

solution: move to new zealand

I think it would be pretty awesome to go to New Zealand. Here in Michigan it's crap. We have 3 places within an hour of home-all land fills made into ski areas. Doesn't New Zealand get snow during the summer in the U.S.? Or am I wrong? Because that would be a sweet summer vacation.

no you're right, when it's your summer it's our winter, best time to hit new zealand would be june/july me thinks... and go the south island...

Yep it sure sucks the fat one. I lived in Wanaka, New Zealand for a long time where the riding is in your back yard and is super sweet. But then I moved to Washington DC for the last 2 years. I just about wanted to hang myself. Luckily im heading back to Wanaka as of next week! Cant wait.

from what i here there is a pretty damn fine convic skatepark in wanaka also these days for when the white stuff isn't happening...

Yeah I havnt seen it as I havnt been back for 7 years but I hear its pretty sweet. I think it was only in the planning stages when i was last there. I had actually forgotten about that, cant wait to get back! Not that im much of a bowl skater, im more of a downhill longboard kind of guy.

from what i remember seeing, it is more of a street park with some un-hittable hips... but i coul dbe wrong as that was back in 2000 and there may well be another park by now...

queenstown should be due for another park soonish also?

The park is awesome, people have been going crazy on it all winter.
Snow has been super sweet too. Although I hear Aussie has been doing alright themselves.
