hey friends,
I got a theatre production company, www.teatrodenieve.com, and we are interested in video editing to get to movie productions.
May I ask if you can recommend me a video editing software to be used to produce short films?
Thank you very much!
Cheers,
There are a few threads that deal with this already... However, if we know your budget range, the format you are shooting on, DV, hDV, other?... The level of committment you have to 'filming' and what computer system you have or are likely to get; i.e. Mac or PC, CPU power, etc., people might give you more specific suggestions.
Also, if you have specific needs, such as FX/Greenscreen work?
Adobe Premiere Pro is great! Also for special effects FXhome's softwares!
FXhome is for greenscreens, special effects, etc!
give a try with Avid Liquid 7.0, its very easy to learn and got a lot of effect, even you can create custom effect for your video..
Sony Vegas. If you plan on Greenscreen then go Adobe Premire + After Effects + CS2/3
Cheers.
adobe primiere pro for editng and adobe after effects for special effects
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 is a great investment for your company if your prepared to put the money in. Infact the cheaper option would be Premiere Pro 1.5 - you could grab it off Ebay for a bit less and there's honestly not much difference between them.

Sony Vegas has better green screen capabilities than Premier. I use both and have found Vegas to be much better at it.

THe same damned question every 3rd thread now...
I'll recommend what I always do.
Sony Vegas. It's not expensive, it's got all the features you need and more, and did I mension it's not expensive?
Adobe Premiere on the other hand is far more expensive, and really a pain to get into. I use it almost on an everyday basis, so I know it well enough, but I recently picked up Vegas, and I don't hate it
I just use Windows Movie Maker.
I know, it sucks... but it is good for short films I guess....
Anybody using Ulead???
i tried using premiere, but i hated it.
Really with primere you just have to get used to it. I really liked it but not when i first started using it. Mainly because really your used to using one thing that might be easier. I admtit that primere is harder to get the hang of but i like it.
I would say adobe premiere pro+after effect

Yes premiere is very good. But it is also expensive!
I can recommend Pinnacle Studio 10, it is a program with a wide range of features, from bluescreen to all possible end-formats and overlay.
The problem is, you need to download all batches and updates, as the 10.0.0 version crashes very easy, but rthe updates are for free and consequently no problem. For more information,

I hope this was helpful.

I can't really judge because it was a long time ago that I used it but I was using something awful like Ulead SE6 Basic but I think their better stuff was worth having for the price. I got some of it free with my camera but obviously it was downgraded software. I used it for occasional things that I couldn't do in movie maker.

The only product from Pinnacle worth using is Liquid. The studio range from Pinnacle is just not up to sctratch in its capabilities and is very limited.

Same goes for Ulead products. They just are not up to the job.
From a professional standing - If you want to be able to do this properly and with peace of mind that you will purchase the right software there are only 3 options to you.
As long as you light the scene well there will be no problems.
1/If you are on a Mac - Go with Final Cut pro.
PC:
2/ Sony Vegas 6 or 7. - Its chroma key effect is out standing and very easy to use.
3/ Adobe Premier Pro - Again its keying capabilities are fantastic.
You could also go down the Avid route but expense wise, its very costly.
I'd avoid anything else. You could go with a cheaper product but you will end up paying for it when you find yourself trying to get it right with great difficulty due to poorly written software.
This is an easy answer....Sony Vegas......sure, the price may be a little higher, but it's worth the money...there are millions upon millinos of things you can do with the program, so if you ever feel the need to be creative, you'll never be limited to what you can do! I hope this helped!
I would highly recommend Final Cut Studio 5.1
If you're on windows, use Sony Vegas.

What about open-source? Is there any open-source program that is worth trying?
I have found a program called Jahshaka and am wondering how it is? What else is out there?
Windows movie maker always works for me. Or Pinacle studio if you want something with a little more FX. Theses programs are very user friendly
