Hey, I'd appreciate any feedback you've got on a small site I've just finished designing:
http://www.cakeinyourface.com/ - it's a website for a startup wedding cake decorating business in Sydney.
It's the first time I've tried designing a website for XHTML 1.0 strict, using CSS as the only layout tool (no tables, except in my forms).
Any suggestions for improvement?

Looks awesome. Code looks awesome.
If you want a fun css challenge, make the roll overs in css insetad of JS.
But otherwise the appearance looks good, the code is clean and in order. you get nothing but *applause*
You next step is prob going to be talking to the client, and see what they need/want to add. like perhaps maybe some stock 'cakes' that ppl can order over the internet, or being able to accept payments online as well. Maybe an online invoicing system.
But at the moment, nothing is screaming fix me... it looks great!
congratz! its amazing! very elegant with a fun name! just like cake! anyway very good! i took a look around and I couldent find anything to comment on! anyway great site!
hmmmmm... nice work man !
keep it up !
cakeinyourface
creamy name !! hahaha
I love your site! The design really compliments the content. It looks how a cake design site should look in my eyes.
It has the information you need, is easy to navigate and is very clean indeed.
Nice touches here and there that make visiting the site a real pleasure.
I wish I could find fault so that you could see that I will when I need to but in this case there is simply no need to find fault.
Great stuff! Congratulations!
nice design. i like your site. congratulations!

The validator says your site is not good XHTML. Other than that: Thumbs up.
Great looking site, very simple but works beautifully for you.
Yep man I hope your business will run like your site.
Smooth and creamy, just like your cakes.
Nice name. Kind of sticks in your memory...
Keep us up to date about your bizz
It looks really great!..The designs are great and I love the white background!
Nice fresh design for the site. Simple but effective. Love the look and love the cakes!
Best of luck with the business!
Thanks everyone for your responses! Wow - I'm overwhelmed
Fixed up that problem with the validator, just some pesky typos from being too rushed - should've checked more carefully...
Oh well, time to start on the next project, I guess!
Cheers
wow... now that is a fast response... because now...
"Result: Passed validation"
"This Page Is Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict!"
Site looks great. Code is simple and valid! This is first time, when I see, that someone has used HTML, PHP and PERL in same site
You could mask them to use html, which makes your site homogeneous.
In gallery page is link to deliver: http://www.cakeinyourface.com/delivery.html It gives Error 404
nice work dude. plain and simple. beautiful if you ask me. this is the kind of webpage i've been wanting to develop these days. express its simplicity, use color white as much as possible and make it plain and elegant. although, im not yet good at xhtml. too bad.
Thanks again, amazing those little things that you miss. (My 'details' page was originally just 'delivery', and I thought I'd found all the places I needed to change it).
SamiTheBerber, when you said "You could mask them to use html", what did you mean? Make the PHP and PERL look like they were coming from a HTML page? I didn't think we had SSI on Frihost? Or is there another way?

Apache use .htaccess. Google gives lots of pages from this subject, but I think that Webmaster Tips has good tutorial.
I have "masked" my site. I have used PHP, but I have optimized it to looks plain html. Frihost makes same. You can noticed that, when you looks urls more specific. Some ends .html and some .php?...
This is good method to get your site listed in search engines.
i like the gallery page.
on the gallery page i like the hover effect on the links.
good work.

Great hint, I always wondered how to do that.
I having a little trouble getting it to work though. Since it seems I bit out of this topic, I made a new thread, but I'd appreciate any advice...
