Greetings!

Hello everyone!

I'm froginabox, and I found out about frihost from a friend of mine.

I'm a college student studying to be in the music industry. I love the college radio station on campus (I'm the assistant operations director, soon to be operations director), and I love doing marathon radio shows. You may see a random thread asking for requests... when you do a 15 hour long radio show, sometimes you run out of ideas as to what to play.

So... that's me! Hope to find out more about everyone eventually...

That's cool! Very Happy I always wanted to try those sort of things but my mum doesn't think it would be a nice start for a job (even if it's just inside the campus). Yes, I'm still in high school so the parents still take the lead. Sad

Welcome froginabox...what's your major? Radio hosting (I don't know what the official name for the major is)?

Hey froginabox, welcome to Frihost! This is with no doubt an amazing host with a ton of storage/bandwidth and several features other hosts can't offer. It's also a great community.

What you're doing it really cool. I have wanted to do that sometime. I tried to run a radio station right from my computer, but no luck. Very Happy

Anyway, enjoy Frihost!

Thanks very much for the kind words, everyone.

To answer some questions (in no particular order)....

-the official major is "Music Industry"
-I'm not paid to be a DJ, although I am on the executive board, so I get a small stipend. Goes mostly towards my cell phone bill - I'm the Assistant Operations Manager (my boss doesn't do much), so if something doesn't work they call me.
-Being a DJ is actually a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Remind your parents that you would have to play nice music without cussing anyways Very Happy

Do you play an instrument? Are you required to play an instrument for any music-related majors in college?
froginabox
I do play a lot of instruments.... actually, I play anything that doesn't involve reeds. I took piano lessons from age 3, took some flute and trumpet lessons in grade school, then once I got to high school I learned low brass. I have taught myself how to play guitar and electric bass, and I'm currently taking lessons for stand-up bass. I also play hand percussion, and I can kinda play a full drum kit (just not well, mind you).

For the major you only need 9 credit hours of performance courses, because most of the people in the major are looking to be publicists or people for record labels, not studio techs or musicians.

That's pretty awesome...I'm looking to go to school for Music Education with a dual major in either Performance, Songwriting, Composition, or Jazz Studies. I play most of the low reed instruments, except bassoon. My main instrument is Bass Clarinet for classical and jazz, but I also play baritone sax in the jazz band. On top of all that, I play piano on a competition level...since I was three. I guess you could say I love music. Just a little.
froginabox
Maybe just a little Smile

I'm learning as much jazz as I can... I'm blessed to have Jeremy Wall (semi-formerly of Spyrogyra) as my piano teacher. An amazing player... he blows me away.

People like you with so much talent make me sick!!!

Nah, just kidding. Very Happy Its amazing you have so much time to fit all of those things in and all of the instruments you play are amazing.

I am struggling with learning the guitar at the moment but don't spend nearly as much time as I shoud at it - once I have the guitar in my hand I love it though.

I really look forward to seeing your posts in the forum as well as any website you put together for us using your free space provided by FriHost.

I hope to speak with you again very soon, welcome aboard my friend.

See you in the threads.

Best wishes
The Captain

Thank you very much, Captain!

Not that I ever said I'm amazingly good at guitar... it is my weakest instrument besides full drum kit.
