Malaysia Johor claim that land reclamation cause floods

I read of the claim in SIngapore Straits Times (tends to be Singapore bias), about Johor claim on Land reclamation on one of the Singapore island causes flooding.

Initially I agreed with Johor, that land reclamation would raise the sea level, but later read that the claim was that reclamation obstruct the flow of flood water into the sea, causing the flood.

This is ironical, the floods were severe, and I felt bad for those affected. What is the cause of the flooding? Blaming it on land reclamation of an island far away from the badly hit flooding area?

The cause is too much rain, and not obstruction to flow of the excess water. Why too much rain? The real cause is environmental changes.
What cause these changes? I will not want to elaborate, but it is quite widely debated.

I do hope Malaysia politicians do not always use Singapore as a way for for their political advancement. Even their federal government do not think it is logical to link reclamation with flooding, but the whole ASEAN nations seem to point to de-forestation by burning as the main cause.

For you reading pleasure.
