Difference between IXUS & IXY 800IS

I would like to know the difference between IXUS 800IS and IXY 800IS. I'm wondering because there is a price difference betwen them from the same shop. Also does (Euro/Eng) and (Jap/Eng) really stand for?

I have figured out that IXY is what they call it in Japan and IXUS is what they call it in Europe and South-East Asia. Also in US and Canada, it is called PowerShot Digital ELPH. Don't really understand why they would call it different names for the same thing. Maybe they are not exactly the same.
