I am currently coding my own custom blog which uses a preview to display the messages rather than a post. This "preview" is just the first 80 words of a post after the HTML tags have been removed. I had found this script on the PHP website, but need it modified to return as a variable:

I simply added the same variable names to the function definition, commented their initialization in the code, and replaced the echo with a return (with added parenthesis for emphasis).
