We just found out that my husband may have melanoma in one of his eyes. We're supposed to go to a specialist tomorrow to find out for certain.

Please keep him in your prayers.
Captain Fertile
Your husband, you and your family will all be in my prayers.

Good luck for tomorrow. Smile

Warmest wishes

I don't really pray, but your husband will be in my thoughts.

Hope everything works out!

We ended up going to UAB, and from what I've been able to find out, the doctor we talked to is the best in our region. Anyway, hubby does have melanoma and as far as we can tell, it's localized to his eye only. But he only has two choices. Go to Philly and have radiation put in his eye by the tumor or have the eye completely removed.

Either choice leaves him with a 1 to 2 percent chance (per year) of it spreading. And both options will mean he will loose site in that eye. The tumor is right next to the optic nerve so the radiation will kill the nerve slowly so if he goes that route, he's only looking at a couple of years of site. So he's pretty much decided to have it completely removed.

It's not the money or anything like that. He's just looking at it logically, or at least trying to. Plus he's going back to the bible.

"Mt 5:29
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."

In this case, he's taking offend to mean "bad for you", which this definitely is. It wouldn't be so bad, but it is his right eye. (not to be morbid, but I have to laugh to keep from crying)

Anyway, thanks for your prayers and I'll continue to keep you posted.

He's planning on trying to have it done within the next few weeks.

That is truely unfortunate. You have my prayers as well as others. God be with you.

Don't lose hope! At the rate things are advancing they may have prosthetic eyes in our lifetime. ...In fact, there are some prototypes out there already.

...And it doesn't make him any less alive, or different as far as what matters is concerned. ...It's way better than being dead. and way, way better than risking kiddos growing up without a dad. I think you made the right choice about the cancer, and I have said a quick prayer about the cancer removal too.

While this is obviously a blow I am relieved that something can be done and hopefully all will be well in the future.

It is good that your husband and you can find comfort in the Bible.

I hope your faith in the bible will help you find the strength and the courage for a testing time ahead.

God bless you both.

As always my best wishes go to you and your family

PS Please come back at some time to keep us posted. This request is not out if idle curiousity but because I care and I am sure I am not alone in that sentiment. Smile

I know, and I appreciate that fact. I may get frustrated here sometimes, but I know I can count on you to help when needed.

Now about what's going on, he's supposed to have surgery 2-22. I know things will be fine, we've had God with us through it all.

It just seems like this whole situation has been hurry, hurry, hurry. We only found out about the cancer 2-7, and now we already have it scheduled to be removed. In one way, it's like I haven't had time to stop and think and at the same time, as if time has gone by so slow.

Anyway, thanks for all your prayers and encouragements. It really has meant a lot to me.

God Bless.

I will pray that your husband and you make the right decision, and that God may be glorified in whatever happens.

Thank you for all your prayers and support. You all were a big help and it's much appreciated.
