3.5mm headphone jack to stereo wire

Any ideas how I could do this?
I tested by connecting positive/negative of speakers to a male/male stereo extension. The volume was really low. I'm just assuming a lack of power.
However I have 4 unused speakers lying about and I would really like to use them with my computers.

you'll need an amp, as the signal coming out of your sound card is only the reference signal, which is very low powered.
