Custom Icon For Your Hard Disk Drives ( For CDs also)

Its the window for me, while clicking "MY Computer" ( Not "Your Computer" Wink

he he! Just Kidding)
Ok, Do you like to put your own Icons for each and every Drive in your computer?
( You can use seperate icons for the CDs also,
and u can see the same icon, for the CD, if you use it in any computer around!!)
Yes.. Its one simple thing to put the icons!!

I will explain how to put those icons!

Steps:

Step 1:
Get some cute icons for the drives!

Step 2:
Open Notepad and type the following:

[autorun]
icon=IocnFileName.ico

Step 3:
Save the notepad with file name: "autorun.inf" (without quotes)

Step 4:
Copy both the files (Icon File & autorun.inf) to the drive ( eg: C:\ , D:\ , E:\ etc)
You can put the same files while writing CDs also ( Do not put autorun.inf inside any sub folders)

Step 5:
Open My computer and just refresh ( For windows XP, you need to restart the system in order to see the change )

Where do I get the images from? I want to make my own, how would I do that? Embarassed

I knew you could do that with CD's, but I didn't know it would work with hard drives too.

@AtlJoker - To make your own images you need a program that can save them as .ico
Paint.NET will let you create such images, and this plugin for it will let you save the .ico images you'll need for this to work.

Or you can get an image and use imagicon to convert it from jpeg format to ico format. Google imagicon, I forgot the URL Razz

You can create icons using many different programs:
Realworld Icon Editor (make your own)
Iconsextract (extracts icons from programs installed)
Photoshop CS(and above) + 22pixel's Flock (plugin to export to .ico)
